Shout Out to My Hesser

Okay, so this post was a little creation of mine with the help of the ever-charming Katie Hesser (props if anyone gets the reference that goes along with "ever-charming"). We were discussing my Hollywood crushes and how I've divided them into their appropriate categories. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.

My Generation Crushes: Ages 19-29
Garrett Hedlund (23)
Matt Long (28)
Rupert Grint (19)
Adam Brody (28)
Joseph Gordon-Levitt (27)
James McAvoy (29) <---Has the same birthday as me! Obviously we're meant to be. Slightly

Out of Reach or Married Crushes: 30-39
Edward Norton (38)
Adrian Brody (35)
Gabriel Macht (36)
James Roday (32)

Almost Old Crushes: 40-49
Timothy Olyphant (40)
Jeffrey Dean Morgan (42)

Old Man Crushes: 50+
Bruce Willis (53)

You'll notice that Bruce Willis holds the only spot in my Old Man Crush list. That's because he is by far the only sexy old guy out there. Scoff if you must, but the dude still has it. That's all I can think of at the moment (I'm sure I forgot many people) because A) I'm tired and more importantly B) I need to finish Eclipse before Friday night! Ah, Twilight, how you control my every whim.

Twilight Goodies

Underrated movie of the post: Panic Room. How does this reference Twilight? Why any real movie lover knows that this is one of Kristen Stewart's first films! She plays Jodie Foster's daughter who has juvenile diabetes and causes so many issues in the movie. If only she didn't have this disease. Everything would have gone so much smoother... But anywho, I love this film because it is really good. The action and the acting is terrific and Jared Leto (while a total douche in real life) is in it making it interesting. Also Forest Whitaker and that country singer Dwight Yoakam.

Movies to see: Research my crushes and you will find a plethora of movies to add to your Netflix queues. Start with good ole Bruce. Oh and Panic Room.

Name 7 movies that the stars of Twilight have been in because none of them are popular enough for me to remember 7 movies each: Kristen Stewart: Panic Room, Messengers, Zathura; Robert Pattinson: Harry Potter; Cam Gigandet: Never Back Down; Edi Gathegi: Gone Baby Gone; Peter Facinelli: Can't Hardly Wait

Elizabeth Reaser was in more than 5 episodes of Grey's Anatomy with Patrick Dempsey who was in Made of Honor with Michelle Monaghan who was in Mission Impossible 3 with Tom Cruise who was in A Few Good Men with Kevin Bacon: 4 steps.

Oh and Katie I may have mentioned Mr. and Mrs. Smith before, but it has never been an Underrated Movie of the Post. I check for these things you know. I'm a professional. Haha.

Post Script: My number of movies has increased. I added Penelope a few days ago and yesterday Laws of Attraction. I'm now up to 140. Be jealous.

Ta-oo-z-d-a Ma-oo-v-ee-z

There were many new releases on DVD today, but not much worth watching...

Harold & Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay - I have yet to see this movie, but I will for sure because the first was too funny! Yay Neil Patrick Harris!

The Hills: Season 3 - Who cares? If I have to hear anything more about Heidi and/or Spencer I'm going to have a hissy fit!

Never Back Down - High School Musical meets Fight Club? I'd only watch because shirtless boys beat the crap out of each other.

Stargate: Continuum - I don't trust any word that has two "u"s one after another and there's too many Stargate crap out there. The original movie was good, can't we just leave it at that?

Freakazoid: Season 1 - I loved this show as a young 'un. I used to have the theme song memorized, but for some reason cannot recall it. Very sad.

Tiny Toon Adventures: Season 1 - I also watched this way back when. Who doesn't want to know what Bugs Bunny did when he was a baby? I know I do!

Ga-oooo-d-ee-z

Underrated Movie of the Post: Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Although this movie was the so-called "catalyst" that broke up Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, but this was still a good movie. Lots of action and hot sexual tension. And if that still doesn't make you agree with me, Adam Brody is in it with his funny, sexy self.

Movies to see: Harold & Kumar 2, Freakazoid, Tiny Toon Adventures, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and Never Back Down if you need a shirtless guy fix.

Random Thought of the Post: Why is it so funny to see people attempt impossible water obstacles and fail so miserably? I'm not sure, watch Wipeout on ABC and get back to me.

Name 7 Brad Pitt: Ocean's Eleven, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Interview with a Vampire, A River Runs Through It, Seven Years in Tibet, Thelma and Louise, and (to aptly round out the list) Se7en.

Kal Penn was in more than 5 episodes of House with Jennifer Morrison who was in Stir of Echoes with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

Making Up

This title is a double meaning, I'm both making up for all of the movie/TV news that I've missed talking about and making up to all of you readers for depriving you of my genius. I hope I'm forgiven, but vacation/slow Internet/Twilight hype has preoccupied my time. Okay, let's get going.

Tuesday, July 22nd:
New DVD Releases

21 - I didn't even bother seeing this one. It was a little too predictable. I did, however, see the ending (without sound) on the airplane to Jersey and I'd have to say that I was right. Jim Sturgess, however, is pretty dang sexy, but only when he sings.

Robot Chicken: Star Wars - This is just a silly collection from the show Robot Chicken's Star Wars spoofs. Family Guy put out the same deal a while back. Why the new Star Wars hype? I have no clue and, frankly, don't care to find out.

Friday, July 25th:
New Theater Releases

Step Brothers - My brother is begging me to take him to this, but I wholeheartedly refuse. There is nothing about this film that makes me jump up to see it, not even drag myself or roll there either. It just looks stupid, even for a Will Ferrell movie.

X-Files: I Want to Believe - Didn't watch the show or the other movie that apparently bombed. Honestly, it kind of scares me a little. I'm not all about the jump out at you movies especially when it comes to people bleeding from the eyes. I have been considering watching the seasons and movies later on down the line, so perhaps, years from now if I'm still writing this blog, you'll hear from me. I think the sexual tension between Scully and Mulder would be worth it if you are a casual X-Files fan, though. It would be for me!

So that concludes the dates I missed while away. Now I shall tell you all about what I did one vacation. Whiffle ball for four straight days (I've never run so much in my life!), brownies galore, crazy family, beach, crabs!, and lastly, I went to see Mamma Mia! This was a surprisingly good film. The music was enjoyable, the acting was great and there were a few good surprises! The singing, while I liked that they didn't go for professional singers and just made the good actors try their hands, was mediocre from a few people and surprisingly well from others. Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried were great! Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth... not so much. But you should go see it anyway if you haven't already. Very good.

When I got home from my glorious vacation, I had to go straight back to work, but I was able to squeeze some catch-up TV time in the past two days. Psych seems to be just as fantastic this season as the previous ones and My Boys is still funny as well. Looks like a happy couple of months until the big shows start in the Fall (Yay, Bones, Lost, House, Heroes, etc.!).

Long-awaited Goodies!

Underrated movie of the post: Catch & Release. I'm the first to say that Jennifer Garner is slightly annoying with her big lips and freakishly muscle-y form, but this movie is great despite her. For one, Timothy Olyphant is in it and devilishly handsome as always. For another, Kevin Smith is the comic relief which, let's face it, makes for a funny film. Not to mention, Juliette Lewis is a pretty awesome actress that no one seems to notice. All in all, not even her royal buffness, Jennifer Garner, can ruin this movie.

Movies to see: Mamma Mia! and Catch & Release. Nothing else is really worth it.

Random thought of the post: The newer Star Wars movies (Episodes 1,2, and 3) were stupid and were a disgrace to the originals. Not even the better special effects, Natalie Portman, and Ewan McGregor could make those movies better. Why? Hayden Christenson, that's why.

Name 7 Denzel Washington: Great Debators, Philadelphia, He Got Game, Training Day, Out of Time, Deja Vu, Man on Fire.

Alec Guinness was in Star Wars with Mark Hamill who was in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back with Matt Damon who was in Saving Private Ryan with Tom Hanks who was in Apollo 13 with Kevin Bacon: 4 steps.

In the immortal words of Tigger: TTFN, ta-ta for now!

Post Script: Shia Labeouf was in an accident because he was drunk driving. First getting escorted from a Walgreens by the Po-po for being drunk and refusing to leave, now this? Why is Hollywood's newest Hit Boy such a douche? This is a question for the ages...

"See? It's magic!"

I don't want to state the obvious, but I went to see The Dark Knight at the midnight show here in Jersey (3 hours before everyone back in AZ. Haha). I didn't have high expectations for the entirety of the movie, but I knew that Heath Ledger wouldn't fail to impress. His performance as the Joker was, what I think, the highlight of his very short, but decorated career. I'm not just saying this because he is deceased, I truly believe that I would think this regardless. His characterization was brilliant to the point that I forgot it was just some guy wearing make-up. It was very real. If the man doesn't at least get nominated for an Oscar then there is something seriously wrong with the Academy.
On to the rest of the cast. Christian Bale was as sexy as ever when he wasn't wearing the stupid costume. I don't know why he feels he must speak like a deranged lunatic the second that mask is on, but it definitely detracts from the film overall. Maggie Gyllenhaal was a bunch of steps up from good ole Katie Holmes. The acting from her was superb. Aaron Eckhart, one of my crushes, was great as Harvey Dent. I was very pleased with him over all and the graphics were beyond awesome (you'll find out what that means when you see it). And, as always, Gary Oldman puts a smile on your face.
All in all, the movie was a bit long for a midnight show, but when you haven't stayed up all night it should be fine. There was plenty of action (including a little visit from Batman Begins alum Cillian Murphy. Yay!), tons of drama, and a kickass clown. Go see it!

Goodies.

Underrated movie of the post: The Four Feathers. Mind you I've only seen this movie from directly under one of those little airplane TVs, but this movie is quite good. It's dramatic, it's action-y, and Heath Ledger's in it. What more do you need?

Movies to see: The Dark Knight and Four Feathers.

Random thought of the post: It's rude to slander the dead. I don't care what they've done or whether or not it's their own fault for being dead, it's rude. And it's especially rude when you are misinformed, yet you continue to be ignorant when presented with the accurate information.

Name 7 Sean Bean: Flight Plan, Lord of the Rings, The Hitcher, National Treasure, Equilibrium, Troy, All those Sharpe movies on BBC.

Tommy Lee Jones was in Double Jeopardy with Ashley Judd who was in Kiss the Girls with Morgan Freeman who was in Wanted with Angelina Jolie who was in Mr. and Mrs. Smith with Brad Pitt who was in Sleepers with Kevin Bacon: 5 steps.

My Emotional Breakdown

My father has been teasing me for years, but I knew that when my mom e-mailed me this morning, this was not a joke.

William Peterson, the beloved Gil Grissom from CSI, will be leaving the show ten episodes into the next season. Needless to say I am upset and my dad is having a field day.
Peterson will not be gone for good like weirdo Jorja Fox and druggie Gary Dourdan. He says that he will be coming back for little guest spots, but the fact is that he's gone! Gone, gone, gone!

Possible replacements have already been announced. Laurence Fishbourne (Morpheus) and John Malkovich are apparently battling it out for the spot. If these two big movie stars are REALLY competing for the position, I would much rather Morpheus. John Malkovich is just creepy looking and I feel that will detract from my love for the show.

So spread the terrible news to your family and friends and try to work through your pain. I know I am going to be upset for the most of the day until my uncle's ridiculous chores distract me.

Morose Goodies...

Underrated TV show of the post: Duh, CSI (Las Vegas). Many crazy adults (ahem Uncle John ahem) believe the show is stupid. But it has been the number one primetime show before and probably still is! It has been nominated and won Emmys for years!
People (Uncle John) also say that they have too many versions of the show, like Law & Order. I've got a response to that as well: the other two are just stupid copycats of the first and best CSI. I'll admit that New York is okay, but Miami is a joke.
Lastly, people (David) will say that all of the episodes are the same; if you've seen one you've seen them all. I'm sorry, but in the last eight years, the writers have been able to come up with different ways for people to die, who killed them and why. This show is never old and the graphics are awesome!

Shows to watch: CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION!!!

Name 7 movies that CSI actors have been in: Eric Szmanda was in Rules of Attraction, Paul Guilfoyle was in Air Force One, Gary Dourdan was in Trois, George Eads was in Evel Knievel, Marg Helgenberger was in In Good Company, and William Peterson was in Manhunter and Young Guns II.

William Peterson was in Young Guns II with Keifer Sutherland who was in A Few Good Men with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

New Jersey Tuesday!

There are many movies that came out on DVD today, but only a few are noteworthy. They are listed in order of importance.

Penelope - By far one of the best movies I've seen in theaters in 2008 which is a bold statement because the year isn't even up yet and there are going to be a lot more good movies coming out soon. This movie is amazing and if you don't try your hardest to see this movie then your life will not be as interesting nor as complete as mine. (I'm trying to convey the seriousness of this movie, is it working?)

Bank Job - I haven't seen this one yet, but I intend to eventually. Jason Statham has produced a few duds, but I've enjoyed most of his awesome-tastic action movies. This one is faintly reminiscent of Italian Job (the sequel is scheduled for 2009 and ridiculously titled "The Brazilian Job". Seriously?), but is in no way related to it. I'm just going to watch it to see if something blows up.

Step Up 2 - This movie was pretty dumb (as was the first), but I went to see it with my friend Katie Guhy because she loves them. I'll admit it has its funny moments and the dude in it is pretty freaking hot, but other than that the plot was cookie-cutter and the acting wasn't great.

College Road Trip - I didn't bother to see this movie for one reason: Donny Osmond. Besides that, the plot is too predictable and it looks as though Martin Lawrence makes an idiot of himself too often. It's just pathetic after a while (i.e. Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers). If you're still unconvinced, I put Step Up 2 before this on my list of importance. That should say it all.

Shutter - I cannot handle scary movies and if I was ever in a position to see the preview even I probably shut my eyes. Don't expect too many reviews on scary movies from me. I heard it was dumb, though, but I can't give you anything concrete.

Some pretty amazing movies are coming out on Friday: The Dark Knight! and Mamma Mia! (the exclamation there is in the title and not added on like I did with The Dark Knight!). Even though I am in New Jersey and they have curvy roads, I will be going to see this amazing movie at midnight and I cannot wait! I'll be sure to tell you all about it.

Le caramelle! ("the candies" in Italian and I'd like to think of my favorite games as candies for your mind!)

Underrated movie of the post: Hudson Hawk. I know that the people who have seen this movie love it as much as I do, but very few people have seen it. It is a funny action movie and it stars Bruce Willis which is reason enough to see any movie. So Netflix it Molly, since you're probably the only person who adds things onto your queue whenever I tell you to. Haha.

Movies to see: Penelope, Bank Job, The Dark Knight, Mamma Mia! and Hudson Hawk.

Random thought of the post: All of the older actors that our parents/grandparents love used to be heart-throbs like Christian Bale or James Franco or babes like Natalie Portman or Christina Ricci. Try to wrap your mind around that!

Name 7 Vince Vaughn: Wedding Crashers, Old School, Zoolander, Made, The Break-Up, Jurassic Park: The Lost World, Dodgeball.

John Leguizamo was in Ice Age 2: The Meltdown with Queen Latifah who was in Beauty Shop with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

That's enough for today. Wait til you see what I have in store for you next time!

In Plain Sight

USA (the channel) has produced another decent television program. Along with the other populars (Psych, Monk, and Burn Notice) In Plain Sight joins the list. The gist of the show is U.S. Marshals in New Mexico protect people in Witness Protection. Not only is the plot line interesting in and of itself, but the characters are a hoot and the acting is pretty good. Mary McCormack is pretty much the most popular person on the show when it comes to who's been in the most things, but that's not saying much. The only thing I recognize her from is West Wing. So I suggest that if you aren't doing anything Sundays around eight, you tune in!

Goodies. Since this is a television post, I thought I would keep the goodies related.

Underrated TV show of the post: Spongebob Squarepants. Just like kids' movies, everyone scoffs at Spongebob. My dad has a problem with a twenty-year-old watching a child's television show, but sometimes it is funny. If nothing else, it's a better way to waste time compared to watching the news. I'd rather see a cartoon sponge rip his pants than hear about death and destruction. That's just my preference.

Shows to watch: Psych and In Plain Sight.

Name 7 game shows still on TV: Family Feud, The Price is Right, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Weakest Link, American Gladiators, Wheel of Fortune, Deal or No Deal.

Hugh Laurie is in House with Jennifer Morrison who was in Stir of Echoes with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

Friday = Movie Day!

Alrighty, it's a pretty slow day at the theaters today. Nothing extremely interesting to report until next Friday when the majesty of Dark Knight is released! (Woot) Here's what we've got:

Hellboy II: The Golden Army - Alex and I saw this movie at midnight this morning and I have to say that I enjoyed it. They took the time to actually come up with a decent plot for a sequel unlike so many other films (ahem-pirates-ahem). They took a good four years before spitting out another Hellboy and I think it was well worth it.

Meet Dave - I'll admit that I have no desire to see this movie. I really like Gabrielle Union, but not even she gives me the desire to spend money on this film.

Journey to the Center of the Earth: 3D - I actually wouldn't mind seeing this one. Brendan Frasier is cool and movies in Digital 3D, while a little corny, can be cool as well. I probably won't run out to see it, but if I have nothing better to do, I might if the occasion calls for it.

So Alex and I completed our 7 movies in 7 days early this morning. For our Thursday show, we saw Street Kings with Keanu Reeves. There was actually a ton of other people in it and it was a lovely surprise each time one showed up. There was sexy man Chris Evans, Forest Whitaker, Jay Mohr, John Corbett, Cedric the Entertainer, Hugh Laurie, Terry Crews, Naomie Harris, Amaury Nolasco, and Common. I understand if you don't recognize more than half of those names. Knowing random people's names that other's do not is a sad truth that I have gotten used to.
Lastly, we saw Hellboy 2 at the midnight show which is technically Friday so everything worked out nicely. I'm not sure we'll be trying that again any time soon, however, because we were running out of things to see once we got down to the wire.

Goodies!

Underrated movie of the post: Because I Said So. Although this movie is a HUGE chick flick, it is actually very humorous. The story is somewhat predictable in places, but the ending is worth it. The real reason I'm discussing this movie is because of an underrated actor: Gabriel Macht. You've seen this guy around, but probably never noticed how good looking he is because he's never really been in the lime-light. I'll admit he's not extremely gorgeous, but he is nice to look at while watching this hormone-driven film.

Movies to see: Hellboy, Street Kings, and Because I Said So. All good ones.

Random thought: Ron Perlman looks better red with horns and a tail. He should seriously consider adopting the alter-ego of Hellboy permanently.

Name 7 Denzel Washington: Bone Collector, American Gangster, Philidelphia, Out of Time, Great Debators, Antwone Fisher, Deja Vu.

Amanda Bynes was in What a Girl Wants with Kelly Preston who was in Death Sentence with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

Three-Named People

I have a personal vendetta against all famous people who go by their first, middle and last name. Like we wouldn't know who they were if they didn't. It's a waste of time to say those extra few syllables and it doesn't make you any cooler. Here are a few examples:

Philip Seymour Hoffman - I dislike this man because he's pretty much a huge creep.

Jennifer Love Hewitt - She was actually named Love so I support her decision to change her name to something less weird, but she should have gotten rid of the name altogether instead of just moving it to the middle.

Sarah Jessica Parker - All three of her names are boring and putting them together doesn't make her more interesting.

Chad Michael Murray - Good looking, but still unneeded middle name.

And here's some more!
Sarah Michelle Gellar
Seann William Scott
Tim Blake Nelson
Billy Bob Thornton
Kathie Lee Gifford
Mary Tyler Moore
Evan Rachel Wood
Sarah Wayne Callies
Joseph Gordon Levitt
Lou Diamond Phillips
Michael Clarke Duncan
Marcia Gay Harden
Jeffrey Dean Morgan
Richard Dean Anderson
John Michael Montgomery
Daniel Dae Kim
Henry Ian Cusick

Okay, I'm done looking for them. If you have anymore to add, here are the rules: Jr.'s don't count, hyphenated last names don't count, and middle initials don't count.

Goodies!

Underrated movies of the post: Shrek the Third. I watch this movie constantly at work because it's funny. I will always enjoy the Shrek movies even though some critics (such as my father) think they are getting dumb. They are for small children, so they'll never get old. How many Land Before Times are there? I rest my case. My favorite quote from this film is between Prince Charming and Cookie and it goes as follows:

Prince Charming: I suggest you freaks cooperate with the new king of Far Far Away.
Gingy: The only thing you're ever going to be king of is King of the Stupids!

How can you not love that? Classic.

Movies to see: Shrek 3. Honestly, it's a good one.

I think the whole rant above was pretty much my thought of the day.

Name 7 Drew Barrymore: Charlie's Angels, 50 First Dates, Wedding Singer, E.T., Lucky You, Fever Pitch, Never Been Kissed.

Kristen Bell was in Veronica Mars with Enrico Colantoni who was in Galaxy Quest with Alan Rickman who was in Love, Actually with Colin Firth who was in Where the Truth Lies with Kevin Bacon: 4 steps.

The 7 Day Challenge

Firstly, my brother and I have decided to challenge ourselves. Starting last Saturday, we have been going to see a different movie everyday for a week. We've actually been sticking with it, but are starting to run out of movies to see. Here's how it's going so far.

Saturday: Hancock.
Sunday: Wanted.
Monday: Wall-E.
Tuesday: The Love Guru.
Wednesday: Get Smart.

5 days down, 2 to go! We'll probably see the midnight showing of Hellboy 2, but that is technically Friday's so we just need to find something to see on Thursday and our dream will be realized. I'm leaning toward seeing Harold & Kumar 2 in the dollar theater, but who knows what will happen! This is so exciting! I'll keep you updated.

Secondly, as mentioned above, I recently saw The Love Guru. I will be the first to admit that this movie is utterly ridiculous. The jokes are very Mike Myers-esque and there are more puns than anyone could ever know what to do with. However, the one person that brought the movie together and overpowered the disgusting-ness of Jessica Alba was Steven Colbert! Although he wasn't in the movie as much as he should have been, he easily stole the show. Allow me to add the quote that made me laugh so hard my sides hurt:

"I like the Christmas babies, Trent! I like how my skin feels in the rainbow jacket!"

Just you wait til you actually see it in context, but wait til it comes out on DVD because it's not worth paying 9 bucks for. Plus, this way you can fast-forward all of Jessica Alba.

El goodie-os.

Underrated movie of the post: Knocked Up. I know that a lot of people are mocking all of the new movie previews that start with "From the guys who brought you Knocked Up and Superbad...", but the movie is still great! And it was a big success so that's why they keep milking it for all it's worth. I mean, if you think about it, the movies they are advertising for are meant for the same audience as Knocked Up. I don't know about you, but I'm THRILLED to see Pineapple Express!

Movies to See: Pineapple Express and Knocked Up. Embrace your disgusting side.

Random thought of the post: I feel bad for actors who get type-cast for horrible/embarrassing roles. Such as, Jaleel White as Steve Urkel. What's even more depressing is the lengths these actors will go to try (futilely I might add) to erase these images. Such as, Daniel Radcliffe bearing all on some stage in London. How sad.

Name 7 Steve Martin: Cheaper By the Dozen, Bringing Down the House, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Pink Panther, Baby Mama, Father of the Bride, Bowfinger

Jerry Orbach was in Dirty Dancing with Jennifer Grey who was in Ferris Bueller's Day Off with Matthew Broderick who was in Cable Guy with Jim Carrey who was in Bruce Almighty with Jennifer Aniston who was in Picture Perfect with Kevin Bacon: 5 steps.

New Movie Tuesday!

There isn't much that came out on DVD today. So to keep this blog interesting, I'm thinking of starting a scoring system to rate all the movies I talk about. Let me know what you think (not that it matters, because if I like it then you'll have to deal with it).

Batman: Gotham Knight - This movie is described as being the first PG-13 animated Batman movie. My question is, who cares? Make it R and then get back to me. Rating: 1/5 pathetic attempts to make money off of the premiere of Dark Knight.

Psych: Season 2 - Psych is by far the funniest show on USA. It isn't a big compliment considering, but season one was great as was season two. So if you haven't seen it, I suggest adding it to your ever-growing Netflix list. Rating: 4/5 inches that James Roday's nose sticks out from his face.

Monk: Season 6 - I'm only including this because my grandma loves this show. I'll admit it's funny, but not something I could ever become addicted to. Rating: 3/5, 3/5, 3/5.

The Ruins - I wasn't even going to include this movie since it is classified as horror and I don't do scary movies. However, as I was perusing the back of the case, I came across many actors that I recognized. Almost all are actors from my generation (i.e. Shawn Ashmore from X-Men and Joe Anderson from Across the Universe) so adults wouldn't care, but I'm actually considering buckling down and watching this movie just to see them. Rating: 2/5 Mayan curses that brutally kills some college kids.

Stop-Loss - I was actually really excited for this movie simply for Joseph Gordon-Levitt, whom I love. However, I never got to see it in theaters and someone told me the ending. Let's just say, my whole reason for seeing the movie doesn't last all the way through. Needless to say, I lost interest. Who wants to watch Ryan Phillipe flirt with his real-life mistress? No thanks. Rating: 1/5 cheating husbands.

Sleepwalking - This movie looks VERY interesting. It stars AnnaSophia Robb (the new and better Dakota Fanning), Nick Stahl (who I like from Terminator 3 and Sin City), Charlize Theron and some other guys. I don't wanna go in depth, but I'm adding it to my Netflix, so you should as well. Rating: 4/5 little blonde girls taking over Hollywood.

Superhero Movie - Yet another spoof movie. I haven't seen one since Epic Movie, but I'm pretty sure they'll never die. Rating: 1/5 references to every lame movie ever made.

Goodies!

Underrated movie of the post: 10 Things I Hate About You. I have quoted this movie so many times it's ridiculous. Today, on my way home, I witnessed another car coming very close to rear-ending the one in front of it. So I thought of when Julia Stiles tells her father, Larry Miller, about how she rammed into Andrew Keegan's car:
Larry Miller: Oops? My insurance doesn't cover PMS!
Julia Stiles: Well then, tell them I had a seizure.
Classic. But this is only one of the lesser quotes from the movie and you should refresh yourself on the multitude of others!

Movies to see: Psych (I know it's not a movie, per say, but it counts if you get it on DVD), Sleepwalking, 10 Things I Hate About You, Terminator 3, Sin City, Across the Universe, X-Men, and Dark Knight.

Random thought of the post: Matthew McConaughey's accent is annoying. There I said it.

Name 7 Jennifer Garner: Elektra, Daredevil, The Kingdom, 13 Going on 30, Catch and Release, Pearl Harbor, Juno

Selma Blair was in My Mom's New Boyfriend with Meg Ryan who was in In The Cut with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

Marky-Mark, Will Smith and Angelina? Oh my!

This weekend was an all-around success as far as movies go. From the title you could probably guess which movies I have seen, but I'm going to tell you anyway because it's all about me and what I want to do.

Thursday night, my mother and I bonded over my new acquisition, Shooter. Can you get any sexier than Marky-Mark? I submit that you cannot. I must admit that in the beginning when he's all mullet-y up in the mountains, he's not at his best, but he's good looking if you cover up the mullet with your hand. Although, I've never tried this, I'm sure it'll work.

On Saturday night, my brother, Alexio, and I went to see Hancock and, as I promised, I have an amazing review for you. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. And while Will Smith was not shirtless (at all!), I was surprised at the twist involved. It was funny throughout, but I'm sure many guys out there will probably say there wasn't enough action. True, there was only one big action sequence, but the rest was just as good. Jason Bateman was true to form as the funny guy and Charlize was there to look pretty (in leather for all you boys out there). So I suggest seeing this movie, but I'll understand if you just wanna wait to rent it.

Sunday night was the greatest of the three nights because I dragged my brother and mother to see Wanted. I was skeptical about this film, but boy was I happy! Not only is it a kickass action flick, but James McAvoy makes a surprise role as the comic relief. Add in a few twists, ridiculous yet awesome gun-fights and a naked Angelina booty and you've got the fixings for a superb movie (but hold the Angelina butt on mine. I'm allergic). I would share with you the scene that made me laugh uncontrollably loud, but I'm afraid to lessen the majesty of it when you yourself go to see it. Let's just say, the person next to me looked at me very strangely.

That's pretty much all there is to write on this front. Let's move on to the goodies.

Underrated movie of the post: Twister. This oldie, but goodie stars Bill Paxton, Helen Hunt, Cary Elwes, and a bunch of other people not worth mentioning (Philip Seymour Hoffman is a wanker). You can't get over the musical score for this film and tornadoes are pretty sweet when they aren't actually tearing up people's lives. All in all, a good one and you should refresh yourself on it. And you'd better listen to me because one day I'm going to quiz you people and then what's going to happen? You fail my quiz and you pretty much fail at life. No pressure.

Movies to see: Hancock, Wanted, Shooter, and Twister. I think only Twister is new to the list, but it's just as important if not more.

Surprise of the post! Angelina Jolie's butt looks just like all the other butts out there. It is in no way spectacular, in fact, I would prefer to have the image wiped from my memory (pun intended).

Name 7 Will Ferrell: Anchorman, Elf, Talladega Nights, Kicking and Screaming, Stranger Than Fiction, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Winter Passing.

Dakota Fanning was in War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise who was in A Few Good Men with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

If anyone would like to suggest actors for these goodies, feel free. I just kind of pick them at random and usually they aren't very challenging. Until tomorrow, my loving readers, when I write a brief post about the movies being released on DVD (very brief because nothing interesting is coming out).

"You tell me what to think so I don't have to"

Alright, I've failed everyone again by not posting on Friday what the new releases were. However, there was really only one and it wasn't even released on Friday, so in my opinion I'm in the clear.

Hancock is the only movie worth mentioning that was released this week. It came out on Tuesday the first. It stars Will Smith, Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron. Now the first time I saw this preview, it looked mildly entertaining, but I couldn't help wondering who the villain was supposed to be since none was shown. In almost every superhero movie, the villain is shown in the preview unless the point of the story is that they don't know who the villain is (i.e. always kept in shadow, etc). As it turns out, the next preview shows Charlize looking mighty suspicious. I'm a big Will Smith fan because, let's face it, he is one sexy-fine black man. I will be seeing this movie later tonight so expect a thrilling post tomorrow about it.

So, working in a DVD store obviously has opened my mind to many interesting films. Just a few that I will be adding to my Netflix are: Meet Bill, Everything You Want, and Playing By Heart.
Here's why I added them:

Meet Bill looks like a very interesting movie. It has Aaron Eckhart, whom I love, Elizabeth Banks and Timothy Olyphant, who is #1 on my "Kind Of Older Guy Crush" list (very different from my "Old Man Crush" list). The plot revolves around Bill (Eckhart) who has taken on one of those kids from Big Brother to try and fill his sucky life. His wife (Banks) is cheating on him with a news anchor (Olyphant) so the kid tries to make Bill's life better by hooking him up with a waitress or something. The only drawback to this funny film is that Jessica Alba is the waitress or something. I'm willing to overlook this, though, because I like the other people, but just barely.

Everything You Want looks like a sweet movie. It stars Shiri Appleby from Roswell and Nick Zano from What I Like About You. The plot involves this smart, artsy girl (Appleby) who has an imaginary boyfriend. Then she starts tutoring a dude (Zano) and begins to fall for him (who wouldn't he's pretty hot). I'm not sure where the plot gets all crazy, but I'm assuming it has something to do with the imaginary boyfriend. Moral? Don't tell hot boys you have a boyfriend unless he actually exists.

Playing By Heart has a lot of famous people that I recognized, including Angelina Jolie, Ryan Phillipe and Jon Stewart, so that's why I want to see it. It also looks like a cute/sexy comedy.

Goodies x 2!

Underrated movies of the post: Mr. Deeds. This movie is actually quite cute along with the wackiness that Adam Sandler brings to every movie. Winona Ryder is actually good and, bonus, not stealing anything. So, good movie that's full of surprises!
Empire Records. As you can see above, I love this movie so much that I put one of its quotes on my page. This movie is hilarious and if you haven't seen it, you have to right now! It's great! It's funny and heart-warming and funny and...funny!

Movies to see: Hancock, Playing By Heart, Everything You Want and Meet Bill.

Surprise of the Post! Matthew McConaughey is an extra in Jaws 3. It isn't on Imdb.com, but I know this to be true because I saw it with my own two eyes! My mother is here to corroborate my story for all you non-believers.

Name 7 Adam Sandler: Mr. Deeds, Eight Crazy Nights, Big Daddy, Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates, Reign Over Me, Click

Name 7 Matthew McConaughey: How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Fool's Gold, Wedding Planner, Angels in the Outfield, Sahara, Two For the Money, and Jaws 3!

Kevin Costner was in Mr. Brooks with Demi Moore who was in A Few Good Men with Kevin Bacon: 2 Steps.

Josh Hartnett was in Sin City with Bruce Willis who was in 12 Monkeys with Brad Pitt who was in Sleepers with Kevin Bacon: 3 steps.

Fare thee well!

Yay!

I have both decreased and increased my movie collection today. I sold off the American Pie trilogy because, let's face it, I will probably never have the desire to watch them multiple times like I do with the rest of my movies. So here's the break-down of my new movies! I'm so excited!

Waitress - If you haven't seen this film, get it now! It is so heart-warming and hilarious; the two H words that matter most to a good chick flick. Not only does this film make me amazingly happy, it also has a story behind it. Adrienne Shelley is the writer/director/co-star of the film and she was murdered before her film was picked up by a major production company. Now, I read about this after I fell in love with the film, but it makes you look at it in a different way. Either way, it is an AMAZING movie and you're sure to love it.

Shooter - Marky-Mark! Need I say more? Okay, Marky-Mark and guns, fire, and explosions! All that and great actors. Winner.

Knocked Up - I shouldn't have to explain the hilarity of this film because anyone who's anyone has already experienced it, but for you nobodies: This movie is beyond hilarious. It is one ridiculous scene after another and by the end your sides will be aching. Watch it!

Well, that's all I really have time for today. So I'll make up the lack of goodies in tomorrow's post when I talk about the new movies in theaters. Bye!

Sunburnt Tuesday!

I have returned to good ole Gilbert with a nice red glow and the inability to cross my ankles without wincing. Yes, the only place I am fatally sunburned is my shins. Who knew?

Anywho, to continue on with this wonderful post, it is the end of another Tuesday and I have yet to inform you of the wonderful movies that were released on DVD today!

Drillbit Taylor - I did see this movie in theaters and I must say it was very funny. Owen Wilson pulls out a stellar performance and Nate Hartley and Troy Gentile (the two nerdy boys) were very convincing and hilarious as well. All in all, it's definitely a rent-er or pay-per-view-er. Whichever works for you.

Vantage Point - Now this movie is cool. It revolves around on incident and they show the same fifteen minutes from multiple people's points of view. The effects are amazing, the actors are awesome (Dennis Quaid, William Hurt, Matthew Fox, Sigourney Weaver), and the story is very unique and imaginative. You most definitely have to see this somehow.

Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns - I didn't get a chance to see this one. I did however enjoy previous Tyler Perry movies (Madea's Family Reunion and Diary of a Mad Black Woman). He is amazing at perfectly mixing drama and comedy and I'm sure that this film delivers as well. I know I'm going to see it sometime soon.

Death and Sex 101 - This movie never hit theaters (as far as I know) and the only reason I mention it here is because it sounds interesting. It stars Simon Baker and Winona Ryder and the story is "A guy's life is turned around by an email, which includes the names of everyone he's had sex with and ever will have sex with. His situation gets worse when he encounters a femme fatale (Ryder) who targets men guilty of sex crime" (imdb.com). Although it sounds dirty, I think it's worth seeing once simply because I like Simon Baker from Something New. So if you aren't interested, get Something New.

Goodies!

Underrated movie of the post: Hairspray. I'm talking about the new musical version much to the chagrin of my friend Sondra who is a John Waters fanatic. This movie is fantastic! It's fun, it has a fantastic soundtrack and the acting is phenomenal! John Travolta is a woman for goodness' sake! Need I say more?

Movies to see: Most definitely Vantage Point and Hairspray. If you have time, Drillbit Taylor and Something New. And if you're feeling like a risk (because I haven't given you my opinion on them yet) Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns and Sex and Death 101. Lemme know what you think.

Name 7 Tom Cruise: Eyes Wide Shut, Mission: Impossible, Minority Report, Far Far Away, Risky Business, Jerry Maguire, TAPS

Simon Baker was in Sex and Death 101 with Winona Ryder who was in Little Women with Kirsten Dunst who was in Interview with a Vampire with Tom Cruise who was in A Few Good Men with Kevin Bacon: 4 steps
