Colin Firth

Movies out today:

Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience: Gross.

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li: Now here's something to be excited about. I remember playing Street Fighter when I was a wee tot so I'm definitely going to see it. Besides, it's a star-studded (albeit, lesser known stars) cast. The action should be good and it'll get me pumped up for Dragonball Evolution! Yay!

On a ranting note: Did anyone see the Diane Sawyer interview with the JoBro? The oldest compared that one with the eyebrows to Mick Jagger. Seriously?! In what possible way are they alike? I'm disgusted on an entirely new level!!

Goodies with a dash of Brit.

Underrated movie of the post: What a Girl Wants. I love Amanda Bynes and this movie is fantastic, in my humble opinion. Who wouldn't want a dad living in London in a huge house? Add the fact that he's Colin Firth, an awesome grandma, and a sexy British boyfriend, and you've got one great life!

Movies to see: Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li and What a Girl Wants. Do not, I repeat, do not see the Jonas Brothers movie for fear that your eyes will pop right out of your head.

Trailer of the post: The Accidental Husband. This movie has been advertised for over a year. Finally it was scheduled for release in March, but apparently has been moved back again to some undisclosed date. I don't know how long I can wait! They've been taunting me with Jeffrey Dean Morgan for too long!

Name 7 Colin Firth: What a Girl Wants, Bridget Jones’ Diary, Where the Truth Lies, Love Actually, Pride and Prejudice, Mamma Mia!, Shakespeare in Love.

Colin Firth was in Where the Truth Lies with Kevin Bacon: 1 step.

Quote Quiz #48 winner: Katrina (again) with Bicentennial Man. You other ladies need to step it up. She still has a way to go before she catches up, but she's good at this game. Don't ask me how. She's probably cheating.

Quote Quiz #49: Name this Colin Firth movie:
"Oh my God, I've got a terrible stomach ache. It must have been the prawns. My goodness, this is a very big fish! It tastes delicious!"

a. Bridget Jones' Diary
b. What a Girl Wants
c. Love, Actually
d. Mamma Mia!

Robin Williams

A slow week movie-wise. Nothing of interest comes out on DVD either.

Sex Drive - I still don't know what this movie is really about. All I know is that James Marsden and Seth Green are in it. It's bound to be mildly entertaining so I'll probably get it on Netflix eventually.

The Haunting of Molly Hartley - Some stupid scary movie that I'm sure did terribly because it was only rated PG-13. You should just be happy, Smolls, that you are Molly Wiedel or I'd have to disown you. I don't really do ghosts.

Hook-ed on Goodies!

Underrated movie of the post: FernGully. This movie is a classic and the earliest child's film that was trying to teach kids about saving the environment. So if this movie had been shown to more kids earlier in life and if it hadn't been so unappreciated then I think it's safe to say that we wouldn't have any problems with Global Warming.

Movies to see: Sex Drive if you want, but most definitely FernGully. It's never too late to learn!

Trailer of the post: Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian. I thoroughly enjoyed the first NatM so it's safe to say I will be seeing this one. Especially since Bill Hader and Amy Adams have been added to the sequel. I like it. I like it a lot.

"We're not a... I mean... We're not a... Blah, blah, blah. I never lie!" Ha ha! Looks great!

Name 7 Robin Williams: FernGully, Patch Adams, The Final Cut, Alladin, Jumanji, Hook, Good Will Hunting.

Robin Williams was in Good Will Hunting with Matt Damon who was in Saving Private Ryan with Tom Hanks who was in Apollo 13 with Kevin Bacon: 3 steps.

Quote Quiz #47 winner: Katrina with Lord of War. This movie was quite a disappointment. The previews made it seem as though it was an action flick with tons of explosions, but it was a complete failure! It was a drama and not even a very interesting one. The only things that kept me going was the hope of more explosions and Jared Leto...who dies. Sorry I ruined it, but you seriously weren't going to watch it so don't pretend to be upset.

Quote Quiz #48: Name this Robin Williams movie:
"It all sounds so very... messy."

a. Flubber
b. Nine Months
c. Jack
d. Bicentennial Man

My Take on the Oscars '09

The Highlights:

-Hugh Jackman: He is so good looking, though there were huge chunks of time when he wasn't on stage and that was highly upsetting. But the opening number was great so I've included it here for those who were hiding under a rock last night or for those who want to see it again (I've already re-watched it myself)

-The Biggies: I really liked how Best Supporting Actor/Acress and Best Actor/Actress were introduced. I thought it was really creative to have 5 past winners come out and introduce the 5 nominees instead of just showing clips from their movies like always. Kudos!

-Stiller/Portman: Quite an odd pairing to begin with, but made even more so when Stiller came out with his humorous impression of Joaquin Phoenix. And who doesn't love Natalie Portman? She's a babe.

-Genre Montages: Drama/Comedy/Romance/Action clips were great. My favorite was James Franco and Seth Rogan taking on their Pineapple Express roles to comment on pretty much everything. I love those guys!

-Will Smith: I was very pleased that Will Smith was up on stage for a good chunk of time announcing winners or whatever he was doing. He's pretty.

-Cuba Gooding, Jr: His outburst at Robert Downey Jr's role of "an Australian actor playing a black man" was great. And hopefully RDJ will be playing Shaft. Who knows?

-Heath Ledger: I've been a big proponent of him winning Best Supporting Actor so I'm highly pleased that he did. The parents/sister speeches could have been a little less heart-wrenching because I wasn't planning on shedding tears yesterday, but who cares? He won!

The Lowlights:

-Zac Efron and Robert Pattinson: There is really no reason they should have been on stage and those both looked ridiculous. Efron looked plain terrified and Pattinson was being his smarmy, I'm-too-good-for-this self. Ridiculous.

-Taraji P Henson: She's awesome, one of my new favorites, and she didn't win Best Supporting Actress. Honestly, she should get her own separate award for being able to be around Brad Pitt on set and not jump that hotness. Besides that, she's just cool.

-Musicals Number: I have to admit that the second number Hugh Jackman did with all the musicals and Beyoncé was bad news. My mom thought they were all lip-syncing, but if that was the case they shouldn't sing EVER again whether it be on-stage or not. That's why I think it was probably live because we all know Hugh and Beyoncé can sing (oh and those other kids too).

-Sean Penn: Did he really have to win? I mean, honestly, the guy just bugs me. I know he's this fantastic actor and all that jazz, but I think all of the other dudes nominated should have won over him (you know I really mean it if I choose Philip Seymour Hoffman over Sean Penn).

Oscar-ly Goodies

People I want to be friends with: Taraji P Henson, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Natalie Portman, Liam Neeson, Jessica Biel, Joel Grey, Queen Latifah, Christopher Walken, and Michael Sheen.

People I want to be "more than" friends with: Emile Hirsch, Adrian Brody (without long hair), Brad Pitt, Hugh Jackman, Dev Patel, Seth Rogan, James Franco, and Dominic Cooper.

People who looked amazing: Reese Witherspoon, Natalie Portman, Jennifer Aniston, and Marisa Tomei.

People who looked utterly ridiculous and why:
Philip Seymour Hoffman: A black beanie to the Oscars? Really?
Sarah Jessica Parker: I was on "Boobs Falling Out" watch every time she was on screen.
Zac Efron: Since when did long greasy hair become cool?
Adrien Brody: I don't think I'd mind the beard as much if it didn't come with nasty long hair.
Tilda Swinton: She just "threw something on"...some curtains. Literally.
Mickey Rourke: If he was going for disgusting and gag-worthy, he succeeding wonderfully.
Robert Pattinson: When they were talking about Mickey Rourke, he was sitting in the row behind looking absolutely creepy. People can't keep saying it's him playing up his Edward role because he looks like this ALL THE TIME!!! He's a big creeper and it's time people recognized it.
Kate Winslet: She's beautiful, but the hair style needs work.

The annoying part: What's with the Language barrier? I think more foreigners won than not and NONE of them spoke English (or at least understandable English). I've never been one to insist upon the rest of the world speaking English, but what's the point in me not fast-forwarding when I don't understand what they're saying?

The best quote: "And here's Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. I don't really have a joke for them, but I'm contractionally obligated to mention them every 5-6 minutes. So there they are!" - Hugh Jackman

As for the Quote Quiz, I feel I must let Katrina and Molly know that Katie guessed incorrectly for the last post. So not only do you get another shot, but one answer is eliminated! Guess away!

Nicolas Cage

I know I'm a little late in this post, but really nothing worthwhile came out this weekend, so I didn't miss much.

Movies out on Friday:

Fired Up! - An entire movie about two guys trying to sleep with hundreds of cheerleaders. No thanks. I don't care what you say, Katie Hesser, I'm not seeing this movie willingly. It looks completely contrived and predictable. While I usually like those kinds of movies, I'm going to have to veto this one on principle.

Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail - Finally Tyler Perry puts out another movie with Madea in it. I guess from the other movies he's put out without her, he realized that the only way he's going to make money in Hollywood is if he dons that wig, those glasses, and that amazing mu-mu. Who knew cross-dressing could take someone so far?

See? Nothing interesting.

On another, more interesting note, I went to see Inkheart this weekend. It came out a while back and I have to say I was slightly skeptical of the plot even though I wanted to see it. Let me tell you, this movie is very intricate, but it is able to explain things very well. You pretty much knew what was going on the whole time and weren't lost. Also, Helen Mirran was the comedic relief (with a little help from Jim Broadbent) and it was action packed coupled with amazing special effects. Needless to say, I'm going to buy the movie and the book it was based off of. I just know I'm going to love both.

Goodies (no facial expressions necessary).

Underrated movie of the post: Matchstick Men. Here's an indie movie for you. Very good drama (and you know I rarely enjoy dramas). It revolves around Nicolas Cage who is a con man and his long-lost daughter shows up. He's also OCD or something so that adds to the fun.

Movies to see: Matchstick Men and Inkheart.

Trailer of the post: Knowing. This movie looks very intriguing and gives Nicolas Cage plenty of time to not show emotion. But you gotta love him. No really, you have to. He's a Coppola. They're like the Mafia of Hollywood.

Name 7 Nicolas Cage: Con Air, 8 MM, Ghost Rider, Lord of War, Adaptation, Weatherman, Matchstick Men.

Nicolas Cage was in Matchstick Men with Alison Lohman who was in Where the Truth Lies with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

Quote Quiz #46 winner: Katie with Junebug! This was a very cute/odd movie. I think the best part was Amy Adams and how pregnant/crazy she was. I would suggest it.

Quote Quiz #47: Name this Nick Cage movie:
"There are two types of tragedies in life. One is not getting what you want, the other is getting it."

a. Con Air
b. Weatherman
c. Lord of War
d. Matchstick Men

Amy Adams

DVDs out Tuesday:

Body of Lies - I heard this movie was terrible and that just makes me laugh because while I am a huge proponent of Leonardo DiCaprio I'm not that big of a fan of Russell Crowe.

Changling - This movie is supposed to be fantastic and I'm going to put it on my Netflix queue. I don't really like deep, intellectual dramas, but I'm willing to give this one a try.

Flash of Genius - Greg Kinnear and Lauren Graham take on this true story. I wasn't very interested so I just Wikipedia-ed who won the case.

High School Musical 3 - Bleh. The plot was dumb and the singing was ridiculous. There was just one worth-while part and it only lasted for a few brief seconds.

How to Lose Friends & Alienate People - I L-O-V-E Simon Pegg. He is my hero. Also Megan Fox plays...(pause for suspense)...a stuck-up, diva movie star. Surprise, surprise.

Quarentine - Stupid movie about cops trapping some innocent pedestrians inside a apartment building full of crazy cannibals or something. Who cares?

Enchanted Goodies!

Underrated movie of the post: Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day. This movie is very good. I loved every bit of it and it was so funny. Besides that Lee Pace is in it and he's so F-I-N-E in that cute, nerdy way.

Movies to see: How to Lose Friends & Alienate People, Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day, Changling.

Trailer of the post: Sunshine Cleaning. This movie looks so great. Dramadies are usually winners. Take Little Miss Sunshine for example.

Name 7 Amy Adams: Enchanted, Junebug, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, Cruel Intentions 2, Doubt, Wedding Date, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

Amy Adams was in Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day with Frances McDormand who was in Burn After Reading with Brad Pitt who was in Sleepers with Kevin Bacon: 3 steps.

Quote Quiz #45 winner: Katrina with Closer!

Quote Quiz #46: Name this Amy Adams movie:
"I wonder what she looks like. I bet she's skinny. She probably is. She's skinnier'n me and prettier too. Now I'll hate her. Oh, I can't wait!"

a. Junebug
b. Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day
c. Cruel Intentions 2
d. Charlie Wilson's War

Clive Owen

Movies out today:

Confessions of a Shopaholic - Yay! I'm so excited to see this! I absolutely love Hugh Dancy and Isla Fisher. It is going to be awesome.

Friday the 13th - Why do people keep trying to remake these older scary movies? I know for a fact that the fans of the original are hardly ever pleased. Plus this version has Jared Padalecki (Dean from Gilmore Girls) and Danielle Panabaker (Sky High) and Aaron Yoo (Disturbia/Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist). Explain to me how these people have the chops to pull of this horror classic.

The International - Clive Owen and Naomi Watts take on a bank. I just hope they get that loan they need to open their Beanie Babies store.

Goodies with a hint of Clive.

Underrated movie of the post: King Arthur. Sure it's not historically accurate and they basically crapped on all of the stories depicting the rise of Arthur. What's important is Ioan Gruffudd. He dominates with his double sword and angsty attitude. Also Keira Knightley looks pretty fine in her strips of leather.

Movies to see: Shopaholic!, King Arthur, and The International if you want a conspiracy theory that may be boring.

Trailer of the Post: Duplicity. This movie looks a little weird, but I just love the scene of Paul Giamatti and Tom Wilkinson going at it. That's hilarious.

Name 7 Clive Owen: Shoot Em Up, Children of Men, King Arthur, Sin City, The International, Closer, Inside Man.

Clive Owen was in Inside Man with Denzel Washington who was in Philadelphia with Tom Hanks who was in Apollo 13 with Kevin Bacon: 3 steps.

Quote Quiz #44 winner: Molly with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind! Great movie.

Quote Quiz #45: Name this Clive Owen movie:
"A good fight is never clean."

a. King Arthur
b. Closer
c. Sin City
d. Inside Man

An Ode to My Puppy

When I left for school Wednesday morning, I didn't know it would be the last time I would see my little Ginger. Only a few hours later, I returned to find that while I was away she had hurt her back and we had to put her down. All she did was go through her dog door for the millionth time, but this time she ruptured a disc in her spine. She couldn't move her back legs and the easiest thing for us to do for her is to put her to sleep.

While my family and I are severely broken over the loss of our puppy, I continue to think of all the happy times where her antics made me laugh. I'm also very glad that our last moments together were happy ones. She was sleeping in my lap as I watched television and ate cereal.

So here's to Gingersnap Christmas Cookie Skelnik. By far the greatest Dachshund there ever was.

She was always finding crazy places to sleep.

Begging and sleeping. She was the queen of both.

Looking good, Ginge.

Sleeping all day can be very tiring.

It takes skill to fall asleep like this. She was the master.

She was always convinced that anyone who went outside was going to splash her.

Another ridiculous sleeping spot.

The Original Weiner Bed. It ended up being too small for her neediness.

Built for burrowing...under covers.

The Skelnik Family

All decked out for Christmas

Everyone is a sucker when it comes to those big brown eyes.

Sleep well, Ginger. I will always love you.

Mark Ruffalo

DVDs out Today:

Blindness: This movie was actually spectacular. I loved every bit of it. It's a great critique of the human condition. And it stars Mark Ruffalo and Julianne Moore.

All 3 Back to the Futures: Apparently, they put these suckers in High Def. and added more extra features.

Miracle at St. Anna: I didn't see this movie, but it's supposed to be really good. I wouldn't mind seeing it.

Nights in Rodanthe: This movie was cute up until the end. I thought Nicolas Sparks was a romantic not some jerk who likes to watch people cry! Oh wait...

Soul Men: Bernie Mac's last movie. I'll probably throw it on my Netflix queue.

W: For someone like me who didn't pay much attention to the Bush Administration, I think this movie could be interesting. Besides, it appeals to my preference of learning things through funny things on screen (ie. Bill Nye the Science Guy).

Goodies!

Underrated movie of the post: 13 Going on 30. While Jennifer Garner is verging on absolutely annoying, Mark Ruffalo is the high point of this movie. He's adorable not to mention fairly good looking. And who doesn't love a good Thriller dance sequence?

Movies to see: Blindness, Soul Men, W, Miracle at St. Anna, Back to the Future, and 13 Going on 30.

Trailer of the post: The Brothers Bloom. Not just Mark Ruffalo, but Adrien Brody as well! Oh and Rachel Weisz (whom I haven't really forgiven for not doing Mummy 3. Who needs self-respect or a career you can be proud of?)

Name 7 Mark Ruffalo: Just Like Heaven, In the Cut, 13 Going on 30, The Last Castle, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Zodiac, Blindness.

Mark Ruffalo was in In the Cut with Kevin Bacon: 1 step.

Quote Quiz #43 winner: Katrina's back in the game with London! It's about freaking time. Oh and Molly, Aunt Janette emailed me her answer because she couldn't comment directly. Since no one else was commenting, I let her have it.

Quote Quiz #44: Name this Mark Ruffalo movie:
"Maybe if you stopped stealing their panties."

a. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
b. Rumor Has It...
c. View From the Top
d. Committed

Chris Evans, my love.

Movies out today!!! Yay movies!!

Coraline - This movie is beyond creepy. The worst part is it's supposed to be for children. There are going to be a lot of parents shaken awake in the middle of the night and even more people growing up with a fear of buttons.

He's Just Not That Into You - This is a star-studded movie that looks great! I'm going to see it Sunday and I'm looking forward to learning how all the stories intertwine.

Pink Panther 2 - The first movie was mediocre, but it's supposed to be. I wouldn't mind seeing the second one, but I'm not going to rush out to see it. Steve Martin is awesome, though.

Push - Chris Evans!!! This movie is like the show Heroes only in movie-form. And I'm intrigued to see Dakota Fanning again. I've had mixed emotions about her and I want to see if I'll like her.

Fanboys - This movie is a nerd's dream. It's been pushed back for over a year and is finally being released in only a few theaters. All I know is one of them had better be close by.

Confessions of a Shopaholic is coming out next week and I'm beyond excited. Not only is Isla Fisher an awesome actress, but Hugh Dancy is in it being adorable! Watch this trailer and look for when he holds his face up with his hand and smiles at her. Hot.

Goodies! Flame on!

Underrated movie of the post: Street Kings. This movie was surprisingly good. Keanu Reeves played his part of having no emotions, but the other characters around him were amazing. Chris Evans was hilarious trying to deal with him. And Keanu actually tried his hand at comedy by nicknaming Evans' character Paul Diskant "Disco". The movie itself was an intricate story and for once I enjoyed a conspiracy movie. Besides all of that, the action and shooting scenes were amazing.

Movies to see: Street Kings, Fanboys, Push, He's Just Not That Into You.

Trailer of the post: All About Steve. I never heard of this movie, but it looks pretty good. I'm happy to see Sandra Bullock coming back from where ever the heck she was. And has anyone else noticed this Bradley Cooper guy is popping up everywhere? Seriously.

Name 7 Chris Evans: Fantastic Four, London, Perfect Score, Nanny Diaries, Push, Not Another Teen Movie, Street Kings.

Chris Evans was in Nanny Diaries with Laura Linney who was in Mystic River with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

Quote Quiz #42 winner: Aunt Janette makes her entrance into the QQ Game by correctly guessing Beauty Shop! (She had to email me with her answer because she couldn't comment).

Quote Quiz #43: Name this Chris Evans movie:
"I buy that a little bit more than an invisible guy in the sky taking checks and balances on 6 billion people. I think that sounds like Santa Claus to me. You know."

a. Fantastic Four
b. TMNT
c. London
d. Street Kings

Queen Latifah

DVDs out tomorrow:

Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist - This movie was funny up until the last twenty minutes. It lasted way too long and those last twenty minutes were extraneous. The ending was also lame.

The Secret Life of Bees - This movie was great! I'm usually not into dramas, but this one was fantastic. And it kind of showed that Dakota Fanning can act and not just scream like in War of the Worlds. Besides all that, I love Paul Bettany.

Oliver and Company - This is one of Disney's classics because dogs are cooler than cats and can sing better too.

Zach and Miri Make a Porno - This movie was also good for the first half and then got extremely predictable and not funny in the end. As Michael said, it was a comedy turned chick flick.

The Super Bowl happened and here is the highlight of the commercials!!

AAAAAHHHHH!!!!! Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen!!!! AAAAAHHHHH!!!!

Queen Goodies!!

Underrated movie of the post: Last Holiday. This movie was kind of contrived, but cute and it has LL Cool J who is F-I-N-E!! Plus, it's funny.

Movies to see: Zach and Miri, Oliver and Company, The Secret Life of Bees, and Last Holiday.

Trailer of the post: Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. While I enjoyed the first Ice Age, the second one was not as good. I have high hopes for the third.

Name 7 Queen Latifah: Hairspray, Chicago, Scary Movie 2, Bringing Down the House, Stranger Than Fiction, Beauty Shop, Last Holiday.

Queen Latifah was in Beauty Shop with Kevin Bacon: 1 step.

Quote Quiz #41 winner: Katie's back in the game with Invincible! Huzzah!

Quote Quiz #42: Name this Queen Latifah movie:
"What's with the Kmart thing, huh? Is it cuz I'm black? IS IT CUZ I'M BLACK?"

a. Bringing Down the House
b. Scary Movie 2
c. Last Holiday
d. Beauty Shop
