Freddie Prinze, Jr

Movies out today

Edge of Darkness - My cousin Frankie brought this fact to my attention: this movie is exactly like Taken only the daughter actually dies and the lead actor isn't as cool.

When in Rome - I can't wait to see this movie. Everyone in it looks hilarious and it sounds like a perfect chick flick. Besides that, Dax Shepard and Josh Duhamel are super hot.

King of Chick Flick Goodies

Underrated movie of the post:
Head Over Heels. I really enjoyed this movie. It had everything a chick flick normally does (hot dude, shy girl, awkwardness) but it also had murder and intrigue. Good times!

Movies to see:
When in Rome and Head Over Heels.

Trailers of the Post: Chick Flicks

Letters to Juliet. I really like Amanda Seyfried and I like that she's becoming really popular now. This one looks pretty great and the dude is hunky WITH an accent. Could you ask for more?

The Good Guy. I really like Alexis Bledel and Bryan Greenberg has always been a favorite. But did you recognize the other corner of this love-triangle? Rex Racer! Yay for being a nerd.

Letters to God. And to round out the Chick Flick trailers, here's a tear-jerker that looks like it would make even a dude reach for the tissue box.

Name 7 Freddie Prinze, Jr:
Scooby Doo, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Summer Catch, Head Over Heels, Down to You, She’s All That, Happily Never After.

Kevin Bacon Game:
Freddie Prinze Jr was in I Know What You Did Last Summer with Ryan Phillippe who was in Breach with Laura Linney who was in Mystic River with Kevin Bacon: 3 steps.

Tom Hanks Part Two

DVDs out Today

Atonement - This movie came out in theaters a million years ago. I could've sworn it was already out on DVD, but I guess when you don't care much about something then you don't pay attention. I heard this movie was boring and then some with a depressing ending that is so stupid you forget why you even bothered seeing it in the first place. Thankfully, I never wasted my time and I don't plan to.

Bright Star - A period piece/bio-pic. I really like these combinations lately and this one looks pretty good.

I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell - I didn't see this movie because my cousin Molly told me not to. She gave me a few good reasons not to. Apparently, the guy who wrote the book is as big a douche as the guy in his book and I should not give him any more money. So I won't.

Michael Jackson's This Is It - While I support this movie and all the happiness that it brings people after the death of MJ, I still don't like watching Documentaries. So I probably won't be seeing this one.

Saw VI - I heard they plan on making Saw VII in 3D. I was sick of these movies after the third one and I doubt adding a third dimension is going to make them any better.

Surrogates - Not one of the best movies I've seen and it has very heavy undertones of "humans are too reliant on technology" and "technology will be our downfall", but the action was decent and Bruce Willis is still hot.

Whip It! - Honestly, one of the best movies from last year. It was the perfect balance of comedy and drama in that there was way more comedy and only a little bit of drama. Also, Ellen Page and Kristin Wiig are awesome.

Big Goodies (get it? haha)

Underrated movie of the post:
A League of Their Own. This is an all-around wonderful movie. The acting is great from all sides (including Rosie O'Donnell. Who knew?) and who doesn't love Geena Davis? She is one of the most underrated actresses, in my opinion. You just don't see her around anymore. It's too bad. And Tom Hanks was beyond hilarious bringing that edge of comedy. Brilliant.

Movies to see:
Bright Star, Surrogates, Whip It! and A League of Their Own.

Trailers of the post: Kiddie movies

Toy Story 3!

Karate Kid. A remake with Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. Looks mildly entertaining. I wasn't a big fan of the original(s), but I can see why they're bringing them back. 1) To get a new generation hooked and 2) because Hollywood can't come up with an original idea to save its life and must remake old movies or turn books into movies.

Cats & Dogs 2. I can't believe they're making a sequel to this atrocity and nine years later, no less. Hopefully it won't be released in theaters.

Name 7 (more) Tom Hanks:
Turner and Hooch, Big, Da Vinci Code, The Simpsons Movie, Toy Story, A League of Their Own, The Green Mile.

Kevin Bacon Game (without Apollo 13):
Tom Hanks was in You've Got Mail with Meg Ryan who was in In the Cut with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

Quote Quiz #135 and #136 winners:
Me! Because no one guessed the right answers of 135) Stealth or 136) Anti-Trust. Stumped ya!

QQ #137: name this Tom Hanks movie:
"You're not sick, _____, no. You're a little far-sighted."

a. The Terminal
b. You've Got Mail
c. Apollo 13
d. Catch Me If You Can

Jessica Biel and Ryan Phillippe

DVDs out Tuesday (19th)

Gamer - I'm going to buy this movie for three reasons: 1. Logan Lerman, 2. Gerard Butler's badass-ness, and 3. Milo Ventimiglia being a HUGE creeper. Love it!

The Invention of Lying - I never got around to seeing this in theaters, but I do want to. I love Ricky Gervais. He's hilarious.

Pandorum - I really enjoyed this movie. It kept me guessing (for a while) and the twists and turns were pretty exciting. Besides, there're some quality hunks.

Whiteout - Kind of a lame one, but Gabriel Macht and Kate Beckinsale are hot.

Movies out Friday (22nd)

Extraordinary Measures - Probably going to be a HUGE tear-jerker, but I do have a spoiler: the kids don't die. So save the tissues! Yay!

Legion - One of the best movies I've seen so far this year. I freaking love Paul Bettany and the action was superb. It's the perfect combination of kind of scary, kind of creepy, and kind of awesome! I wish that they had picked a better dude for Dennis Quaid's son, though. His accent got real annoying real fast.

Tooth Fairy - I love Ashley Judd, but I staunchly refuse to see this movie.

Freaking Awesome Goodies and Not-So-Freaking Awesome But Still Good Looking If You Ignore The Fact That He Left Reese Witherspoon Who Is Awesome... Goodies.

Underrated movies of the post:
London. It was kind of weird, but I really came to like Jessica Biel in this movie. It takes place during the span of a going-away party for London (Biel) and her ex-boyfriend (Chris Evans) still loves her and tries to get her back. But it's not the chick flick that it sounds. There's fighting and drinking and drugs (courtesy of Jason Statham) and some pretty risque flashbacks. But it's still really good.
Playing By Heart. This movie is a great look at real life and the ridiculous things that can happen and the intricacies of relationships (family, friends, and significant others). I loved it so much I ran right out and bought it (by that I mean I ordered it on Amazon and got it in the mail three days later). Really, REALLY good movie.

Movies to see:
Gamer, The Invention of Lying, Pandorum, Whiteout, Extraordinary Measures, Legion, London, and Playing By Heart.

Trailers of the post: Action(-ish)

A-Team - Prepare yourself for shirtless Bradley Cooper. It comes out of nowhere and, if not prepared, sudden gasping and the inability to pay attention to the rest of the trailer may occur.

Macgruber - I can't believe they actually made a movie out of this ridiculous SNL sketch AND Val Kilmer is in it. I had so much respect for that man until today (even after all the other horrible movies he's been in).

Salt - Although the action looks great, I'm more interested in the story for this one. Will it be twisted enough to keep me guessing? We'll see. We'll see.

Repo Men - This movie looks absolutely awesome and I don't care who knows it!

Name 7 Jessica Biel:
Summer Catch, The Illusionist, Blade Trinity, Elizabethtown, London, Stealth, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry
Name 7 Ryan Phillippe:
Cruel Intentions, Stop-Loss, Flags of Our Fathers, Chaos, Breach, Playing By Heart, I Know What You Did Last Summer

Kevin Bacon Game:
Jessica Biel was in Elizabethtown with Orlando Bloom who was in Troy with Brad Pitt who was in Sleepers with Kevin Bacon: 3 steps.
Ryan Phillippe was in Breach with Laura Linney who was in Mystic River with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

Quote Quiz #133 and #134 winners:
Katie won #134 with Southland Tales, but no one got #133 which was Just Like Heaven. Therefore, I've decided to no longer remind people to guess and/or wait until the right answer is chosen before I write a new post. I have now entered the QQ Challenge and if I stump you then I get a point! Huzzah! So I've gone back to when I started using Multiple Choice and tabulated my points. I already have 9. You guys better get on your game!

c. Breach
d. Flags of Our Fathers

Reese Witherspoon and Sarah Michelle Gellar

DVDs out Tuesday (12th)

Fame - an entertaining movie at best, but I found the music lacking and there were so many different dancers doing so many different dances that I missed a lot, I'm sure. It was also a little predictable. So, in other words, I give it a 3 out of 5.

The Hurt Locker - I've heard a lot of good things about this movie, but I honestly know nothing about it. So, take what you will.

Post Grad - a B-rated chick flick with Alexis Bledel. Needless to say, I'm going to Netflix it. Haha.

Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All By Myself - I'm a little sick of all the Tyler Perry movies and the over-abundance of drama. But I do love Taraji P Henson. She's a babe.

Movies out Friday (15th)

The Book of Eli - This movie looks pretty amazing. I love all the disaster and post-apocalyptic movies that are coming out lately. If they don't increase the 2012 fear then they will at least teach us how to survive. If you run across Gary Oldman and he wants one of your books, then you'd better just give it too him unless you have badass skills like Denzel.

The Lovely Bones - I bought the book on my awesome Kindle so I probably won't go see it until I read the book. It looks pretty amazing though. Peter Jackson usually has pretty amazing special effects.

The Spy Next Door - Jackie Chan is 55 years old. Am I the only one who is amazed by this? As in he's able to still do all the crazy stunts and fight sequences like he did back in the day (a Wednesday, six years ago). He's a beast and I love him. Also, he was hilarious on Conan the other night.

Adorably Adorable Goodies and Preggo Goodies

Underrated movies of the post:
Just Like Heaven. I really love this movie. It's incredibly cheesy but who doesn't love a good chick flick involving ghosts? I know I do!
Simply Irresistible. Ditto to above but replace "ghosts" with "magic food". Also Sean Patrick Flanery! Ka-dur!

Movies to see:
Fame, I Can Do Bad All By Myself, The Book of Eli, The Lovely Bones, The Spy Next Door, Just Like Heaven and Simply Irresistible.

Trailers of the post: Drama Galore.

Remember Me. As much as I loathe Robert Pattinson as Edward, I can't deny that this movie looks good and I'm intrigued to see if he's a good actor outside the Twilight Saga. Unlike Kristen Stewart, he looks like he might.

Green Zone. A war/conspiracy. Matt Damon. No thanks.

To Save a Life. This looks intriguing. The dude is good looking and he seems like he's gonna be genuinely nice. And we all know how rare that is.

Drool. This looks kind of hilarious. I like it. I like it a lot.

Multiple Sarcasms. A little more drama than I can handle with not enough comedy. However, I like Timothy Hutton. Who knows?

Name 7 Reese Witherspoon:
Penelope, Just Like Heaven, Cruel Intentions, Rendition, Legally Blonde, Man in the Moon, Four Christmases.
Name 7 Sarah Michelle Gellar:
Simply Irresistible, Scooby Doo, Happily Never After, The Return, Grudge, TMNT, Air I Breathe.

Kevin Bacon Game:
Reese Witherspoon and Sarah Michelle Gellar were in Cruel Intentions with Ryan Phillipe who was in Breach with Laura Linney who was in Mystic River with Kevin Bacon: 3 steps.

Eddie Izzard

Movies out Friday

Daybreakers - Although it looks scary, I just don't take vampires as seriously anymore so I feel it's probably going to be hilarious. The biggest problem I face is finding someone to go see it with me. Anyone?

Leap Year - An all-around fantastic movie! I haven't seen a chick flick in forever and I'm glad I went to see this. Amy Adams was as cute as ever and Matthew Goode was Goode-looking in his unassuming, subtle hotness. What a hunk! And that Irish accent? Oh jeez...

Youth in Revolt - I'm intrigued, but not enough to go pay for it. I'll wait for Netflix.

A Single Man - Colin Firth is gay (I think) and Julianne Moore is his best friend who loves him (I think). Weird all around.

The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus - Not as good as I expected. It was more weird than I cared for and Heath Ledger, though advertised as being the hero, ended up being a sleaze-ball. Unfortunate. It was enjoyable to see Johnny Depp and Jude Law in it. Not so much Colin Farrell.

Beyond Hilarious Goodies

Underrated movie of the post:
Mystery Men. So many great actors acting utterly ridiculous. This is a classic and I don't care what anyone says!

Movies to see:
Daybreakers, Leap Year, and Mystery Men.

Trailers of the post: A lotta Comedies.

Saint John of Las Vegas. I love Steve Buscemi. That is all.

The Bounty Hunter. Gerard Butler chasing Jennifer Aniston around and getting into crazy hijinks? Sign me up!

Furry Vengeance. Brendan Fraser vs. woodland creatures? No thanks, I'll wait for DVD.

Our Family Wedding. This looks kinda okay, but I probably won't run out to see it. It depends on if I get dragged along by someone more determined than myself.

Name 7 Eddie Izzard:
Igor, Across the Universe, My Super Ex-Girlfriend, The Wild, Mystery Men, Valkyrie, Ocean’s Twelve.

Kevin Bacon Game:
Eddie Izzard was in Valkyrie with Tom Cruise who was in A Few Good Men with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

Michael Caine and Russell Crowe

Movies out January 1st

There were no movies out last Friday, but I would like to report that I have seen Avatar and it is ridiculously awesome. The story, as I suspected from the trailers, is contrived and reminiscent of Pocahontas, but the action, acting, and visual effects more than made up for it. Everything was brilliant and, if possible, you have to see it in IMAX 3D. It literally feels as though you are in the film running from crazy animals and flying around floating mountains. James Cameron is a genius and I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't take home a boatload of Oscars this year.

DVDs out today

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs - This was a highly enjoyable movie. A little cheesy, but it's for kids so what do you expect? I love Steve the monkey.

The Final Destination - It wasn't in theaters long so it's probably terrible. That's not going to stop me from seeing, though. I just want to know why they decided to do the final destination at a Nascar race. Airplanes, cars, roller coasters, and Nascar? I don't think so.

Classic British Goodies and Gluteus Maximus Goodies

Underrated movie of the post:
Children of Men. I don't think this movie gets the credit it deserves. Not only does it have a great story, amazing actors, and action, but it is a wonderful look at human nature.
A Beautiful Mind. I know it's not anywhere close to being underrated, but it's one of the few movies that I actually enjoyed and Russell Crowe doesn't really make underrated movies, does he? No, no he doesn't.

Movies to see:
Avatar in IMAX 3D, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, The Final Destination, Children of Men, and A Beautiful Mind.

Trailers of the post

Harry Brown. Not going to see it, but it does prove that Michael Caine is a badass.

Inception. I have no idea where this movie is going, but I plan to see it based solely on the cast.

Tenderness. Uber-creepy. No thanks.

Robin Hood. Why is it they keep making Robin Hood movies with unattractive lead actors? That show on BBC had a hunkier Robin Hood than Russell Crowe or Kevin Costner. Even Carey Elwes was better looking than them in Robin Hood: Men in Tights. So I guess I'll just have to wait another two decades to see if a decently hot Robin Hood emerges...

Name 7 Michael Caine:
Miss Congeniality, Batman Begins, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Secondhand Lions, Prestige, Alfie, Sleuth.
Name 7 Russell Crowe:
Beautiful Mind, Gladiator, Body of Lies, American Gangster, State of Play, Proof of Life, 3:10 to Yuma.

Kevin Bacon Game:
Michael Caine was in Alfie with Jude Law who was in Closer with Julia Roberts who was in Flatliners with Kevin Bacon: 3 steps.
Russell Crowe was in Proof of Life with Meg Ryan who was in In the Cut with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

Quote Quiz #129 winner:

QQ #131: name this Russell Crowe movie:

a. Body of Lies
b. State of Play
c. American Gangster
d. 3:10 to Yuma
