Sandra Bullock

Movies seen recently:

The Spirit - I've converted one Katrina Winn into a Gabriel Macht lover. Now for the rest of you. This movie is Sin City-esque and the plot is just as ridiculous, but it's fun and movies need to be more fun now a days. Also: Gabriel Macht. What more do you need people? The answer is nothing.

Curious Case of Benjamin Button - This movie was very moving. I'm not sure how, but by the end I was crying. I can't exactly pinpoint what exactly made me cry either which means it's that good! Also, after the first hour or so when Brad Pitt was younger it reminded me of what a B-A-B-E he is. Holy crap!

DVD out today/tomorrow:

The Duchess - That Keira Knightley movie (a period piece. What a shocker!) where she's married to Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes), but has an affair with that boy from Mamma Mia. Apparently it wasn't that great because it didn't take long for it to come out on DVD. I think Ms. Knightley needs to branch out from the past. It's time for her to do some ridiculous Sci-Fi movie set two thousand years in the future to make up for it.

Eagle Eye - Despite my aversion to Shia LaBeouf, this movie was actually good. Good enough to see twice (which I did). So rent it, buy it, see it.

Ghost Town - This movie was GREAT! It was funny, cute, sad, and then funny again! Fantastic on all counts.

Comedy Central Roast of Bob Saget - Maybe this isn't one to own, but it is most definitely one to see at least once. It's crude, but hilarious. And who hasn't wanted to take Danny Tanner down a few pegs? I know I have!

Goodies!

Underrated movie of the post: Speed. While Keanu Reeves has no emotion, Sandra Bullock more than makes up for everything he lacks because she is just plain awesome. This movie is action-packed and throws you for a loop at the end. It's amazing. End of story.

Movies to see: Roast of Bob Saget, Speed, Ghost Town, Eagle Eye, Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Spirit.

Trailer of the post: The Proposal. Looks like another winner!

Name 7 Sandra Bullock: Lake House, Speed, Premonition, The Net, Murder by Numbers, Love Potion #9, Forces of Nature.

Sandra Bullock was in Two Weeks Notice with Hugh Grant who was in Love Actually with Laura Linney who was in Mystic River with Kevin Bacon: 3 steps.

Quote Quiz #31 winner: Kristina with xXx! She sure does know her Vin Diesel movies! And now she's on the board! Keep it up, guys.

Quote Quiz #32: Name this Sandra Bullock movie:
"Don't be someone else's slogan because you are poetry."

a. Premonition
b. Murder By Numbers
c. 28 Days
d. Miss Congeniality

Samuel L Jackson

This should tie you guys over until after Christmas. I hope you have a great time with all of your families!

Movies out tomorrow:

The Spirit - Uh... Yeah! This movie is going to be awesome. Don't let anyone tell you different.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - This movie is for sure not going to be one that makes you laugh or cry, but I have a feeling that it will make you think. It is an intriguing story and stars many a great actor/actress.

Bedtime Stories - Adam Sandler has produced a few gems, but also an equal amount of crap. I think this one will be a gem since it's geared toward kids and it also has Keri Russell who is cool.

Valkyrie - If you want a possibly confusing conspiracy theory about Hitler and some good Nazis then this one is for you. Also Eddie Izzard is in it. Depending on how large of a part he has he could cancel out Tom Cruise.

Frost/Nixon - Michael Sheen and Kevin Bacon square off over President Nixon. Who will win?

Doubt - Yet another conspiracy only involving Philip Seymour Hoffman and priests molesting young boys. No thanks.

Gran Torino - Clint Eastwood is racist and takes on a gang of Asian teenagers. I don't know what the movie's about, though...

Marley & Me - I don't really do "dog terrorizing" movies. I never liked Beethoven and even if people say this movie isn't anything like Beethoven, neither Owen Wilson nor Jen Aniston make me want to see it. Sorry.

DVDs out yesterday:

The Women - This movie was okay. Nothing to write home about, though. Cute, but meh...

Burn After Reading - I haven't seen this one yet, but I cannot wait to. It looks beyond hilarious and has an all-star cast. And even though a part was ruined by one Ms. Katie Hesser, I have to admit I still can't wait.

Death Race - This movie was pointless like most Jason Statham movies, but the action was incredible! Explosions, cursing, and hunky dudes (and yes, car chases. It's Jason Statham after all).

Hamlet 2 - I haven't seen this one either. I'll admit that I wasn't originally interested, but after a while it has grown on me and I figure I'll see it eventually.

That's it! I'm tired of these mother f-ing goodies on this mother f-ing plane!

Underrated movie of the post: Black Snake Moan. Christina Ricci co-stars with Sammy L in this movie which is, admittedly, ridiculous, but the movie is actually worth seeing at least once. The acting is phenomenal and there's a lovely little Justin Timberlake in it as well.

Movies to see: Black Snake Moan, Death Race, Burn After Reading, The Spirit, Curious Case/Benjamin Button, and Bedtime Stories.

Random thought of the post: Again, not so random, but the movie Jumper would have actually been a much better movie if ANYONE besides Hayden Christensen had played the lead. He's a terrible actor. The movie had other great actors and an interesting plot, but it was ruined because of him.

Name 7 Samuel L Jackson: Lakeview Terrace, Snakes on a Plane, Black Snake Moan, Shaft, 1408, The Spirit, Jumper.

Samuel L Jackson was in Pulp Fiction with John Travolta who was in Hairspray with Queen Latifah who was in Beauty Shop with Kevin Bacon: 3 steps.

Quote Quiz #30 winner: Molly with American Psycho! Never saw it and kind of hesitant to because of... you know... Christian Bale killing people.

Quote Quiz standings: Katie with 11, Molly with 10, and Katrina with 2.

Quote Quiz #31: Name this Sammy L movie.
"So are you going to get on the plane or is 'Kiss my ass, Scarface?' your final answer?"

a. Snakes on a Plane
b. xXx
c. Jurassic Park
d. SWAT

Christian Bale

This post is for all you Bale lovers out there. You know I love you.

Movies out today:

Tale of Despereaux - Yay for kiddie movies. This just looks cute, okay? I like small mice and I intend to drag another crazy friend of mine to see it.

Yes Man - Not only is Jim Carrey in this movie, but so is Zooey Deschanel and Danny Masterson (Hyde from That 70's Show). I've heard people tell me that this movie looks the same as all of Jim Carrey's other movies. I ask those people, "What's wrong with all of Jim Carrey's other movies? They're hilarious!"

Seven Pounds - This movie has completed its goal of making me wonder what it's about enough to force me to buy a ticket to find out. Besides, I love Will Smith. He's a sexy, sexy man.

DVDs out today:

Traitor - Don Cheadle is awesome. End of story.

The House Bunny - This movie was beyond hilarious. Anna Faris and all of those girls made me laugh throughout. I plan on buying it.

Goodies!

Underrated movie of the post: Newsies. This is one of the Disney's lesser advertised gems. Everyone seems to know all about it, but it is rarely talked about. This is a crime against nature as a whole. Everyone should force their friends and family to see this movie and they should do it now!

Movies to see: Traitor, House Bunny, The Tale of Despereaux, Yes Man, Seven Pounds, and Newsies.

Random thought of the post: Not so random because I tell everyone I've ever met how I feel about this. Christian Bale needs to ditch the way low stupid Batman voice because no one can take him seriously when he's talking like that. No one.

Trailer of the Post: Terminator Salvation.

Name 7 Christian Bale: Batman Begins, Newsies, American Psycho, Reign of Fire, Swing Kids, Empire of the Sun, Pocahontas.

Christian Bale was in Little Women with Kirsten Dunst who was in Interview with a Vampire with Tom Cruise who was in A Few Good Men with Kevin Bacon: 3 steps.

Quote Quiz #29 winner: Katie with Waiting... because she's apparently the only person left who reads/cares about my blog.

Quote Quiz #30: Name this Christian Bale movie:
"I know my behavior can be... erratic sometimes."

a. American Psycho
b. Batman Begins
c. Captain Corelli's Mandolin
d. Dark Knight

Post Script. All of the possible answers begin with the same letter as their corresponding choice. I'm clever.

Post Post Script. 6 days until Christmas!!!

Ryan Reynolds

Before embarking on this post, I would like to draw your attention to the newest show on TNT, Leverage. This show has been described as "better than the last two Ocean's movies" which is a little harsh, but quite the understatement. Instead of two movies, we get weekly installments of this awesome thief/hero show. I suggest you partake either online or every Tuesday on TNT. If you do, you'll get a lovely gift. Namely, Christian Kane:

Movies out on DVD today:

Mamma Mia! - I'm sorry, but this is a must have for everyone: man, woman, gay, straight, etc. I especially love the commercials I've been seeing promoting the DVD release. They go a little something like this: Be a man, buy her Mamma Mia! Short, sweet and to the point.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor - What's better than Jet Li or Brendan Fraser? Jet Li AND Brendan Fraser AND Maria Bello! While that kid of theirs is way annoying, the movie was pretty good considering the low expectations I had for it. However, the commercials promoting the DVD say that Roger Ebert says it's the best Mummy yet. This, my friends, is a bold-faced lie. The Mummy Returns is the best followed closely by The Mummy and this one comes up in a resounding 3rd. In fact, the other two lapped it when it drove off the bridge into the hot lava. (Props to you if you know what I'm talking about. Few ever do.)

Little Mermaid Trilogy - Everyone should own at least the first Little Mermaid in the even that you have children someday. This is because the Little Mermaid is awesome and the other two movies following are fun to watch if not simply because of Sabastian. He is, by far, the coolest talking crab I know.

Recently viewed movies:

Breakfast at Tiffany's - While I'm not one for old movies (especially in black and white, they're just boring), this movie was rather entertaining. This could be because there was a gaggle of girls whispering (or in Beauchamp's case, shouting) over the movie so all I had to go on was their summary of the end and watching Audrey Hepburn be a babe.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (08) - This movie was A-W-E-S-O-M-E. I even tricked my good friend Diana into going (who generally dislikes Sci-Fi movies) and even she liked it. That goes to show you that I have good taste in movies (most of the time). Other than that how cool everything was, the most beautiful sight I've ever seen happened to take place about three quarters of the way in. Giants Stadium was destroyed. I can only hope that fictional Eli Manning and all his other DBs (douche-bags) were in there as well. That's what you get for winning the superbowl! Don't let it happen again.

Sense & Sensibility - I have to say that enjoying a performance by Alan Rickman is the norm, but actually liking his character is a little weird. Besides that Hugh Grant was adorable, Kate Winslet beautiful as always, and Hugh Laurie hilarious. Emma Thomson is cool, too.

Goodies!

Underrated movie of the post: Chaos Theory. While this movie was only out in theaters briefly and the DVD wasn't advertised ever, this is a Ryan Reynolds classic! It is hilarious, but with a tragic twist. This is a classic Drama-dy, but with more emphasis on the Comedy. So a Comrama. I like it.

Movies to see: Sense & Sensibility, The Day the Earth Stood Still (08), Chaos Theory, Mummy 3, Mamma Mia!, Little Mermaid Trilogy.

Trailer of the Post: You may be wondering where I came up with the Ryan Reynolds theme. Well the previews for The Day the Earth Stood Still were three very awesome movies: Star Trek, Terminator Salvation and... X-Men Origins: Wolverine!!!! And since I'd just recently done Hugh Jackman, I picked the next best actor in this new amazing movie. Katie, you'd better run and get Sarah for this one. Prepare for two and a half minutes of utter joy.

Uh... yeah! Does this movie not look spectacular?! Talk about Sexiest Man of the Year!

Name 7 Ryan Reynolds: Blade Trinity, Waiting, Smokin’ Aces, The In Laws, Chaos Theory, Definitely Maybe, Amityville Horror.

Ryan Reynolds was in Chaos Theory with Stuart Townsend who was in Trapped with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

Quote Quiz #27 & #28: Katie! You were right the first comment. It was 10 Things I Hate About You for the first and Casanova for the second. Don't doubt your skills, you're almost as good as me haha.

Quote Quiz #29: Name this Ryan Reynolds movie:
"With women, there are really only two options. Either she doesn't sleep with you and there's really no reason to ever call her again. Or she does sleep with you... and there's really no reason to ever call her again."

a. Chaos Theory
b. Waiting...
c. Van Wilder
d. Just Friends

Heath Ledger

Well, I wanted to wait for people to comment on last week's post, but apparently there was some sort of "problem" posting comments, but seeing as Katie and I were able to post, those people (Katrina) probably have a problem in their head! haha

Tuesday's DVDs:

Dark Knight - This is very exciting for those Christian Bale Lovers out there, but I'm sure others will agree that Heath Ledger is much more interesting. This, unfortunately, isn't a must have for me. I'm going to wait until there's some sort of Box Set of Batmans before I venture out to buy anything. However, I did love this movie and if you haven't seen it you need to come out of that rock you've been living under and partake in the majesty that is The Joker.

Horton Hears a Who - Jim Carrey is amazing, even in voice form. I saw this hilarious child's movie twice (because I'm awesome, that's why) and I have to say that Katie was the defining character for this movie. So when you see it, keep an eye out for this cutie, she'll have you doubled over in fits of hilarity:

Movies out tomorrow: I was convinced that Yes Man was out this week, but alas, it's not until the 19th. At least you'll know what next week's will be about!

The Day the Earth Stood Still - Keanu Reeves is always type-cast as that dude with no emotion. I love it. He probably thinks he's being serious too, which makes it all the better. This movie looks cool special-effects wise. I don't know anything about the plot, but I'm sure it's a winner with Keanu Reeves... haha.

Delgo - Some stupid kid's movie about lizards or something. It actually looks to be too complicated for a simple kid's movie. The storyline is really intricate from what I gathered from the preview. But we all know kids are just amused by the colors.

Nothing Like the Holidays - This looks like a fairly interesting/funny movie about a family of Mexicans or Spanish people and craziness ensuing during the holidays. Honestly, I only want to see it because John Leguizamo and Debra Messing are married in it. Awesome.

Goodies!

Underrated Movie of the Post: Brothers Grimm. While I'm not a very big fan of Matt Damon, Heath Ledger as the nerdy brother makes it all worth while (also Matt Damon is a big jerk so he makes you love Heath Ledger even more). Also, this movie is about (obviously) the Grimm Brothers' fables and such so it's fun to pick out the stuff you know. And 300's and TV's Sarah Conner Lena Headey is in it and she's kickass.

Movies to see: Nothing Like the Holidays, Dark Knight, Horton Hears a Who, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Brothers Grimm.

Recently viewed movie of the post: Snow White: A Tale of Terror. Just from the title you can imagine how horrendous this movie was. I'm fairly certain it was a straight to TV movie. It stars Sam Neill (Jurassic Park) as the father, Sigourney Weaver (Alien) as the evil stepmother/witch, but the best part was David Conrad (the hot husband on Ghost Whisperer). Unfortunately, this story went with the original Snow White and not the Disney version so David Conrad (who was the doctor/prince) was shoved out of a window and Snow White ended up with one the "seven rejects" (only one was a dwarf) who was pretty fine as well. All in all this movie had a lot of problems, but I've already written more than I thought I would on it.

Trailer of the post: First look at the Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

Name 7 Heath Ledger: Brokeback Mountain, 10 Things I Hate About You, Monster’s Ball, Candy, Patriot, Dark Knight, Lords of Dogtown.

Heath Ledger was in Monster's Ball with Halle Berry who was in Swordfish with Hugh Jackman who was in Kate & Leopold with Meg Ryan who was in In the Cut with Kevin Bacon: 4 steps. There's probably a shorter way, but I go with the most interesting. So there.

Quote Quiz #26 winner: technically Katrina never posted an answer, but she told me verbally what she thought it was. Since Katie posted the wrong answer, I'm going to have to give it to Katrina with Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. She's so far behind in the Quote Quiz Scores that she needs all the help she can get haha.

Quote Quiz #27: Name this Heath Ledger movie.
"Ooh, see that, there. Who needs affection when I have blind hatred?"

a. Casanova
b. 10 Things I Hate About You
c. Lords of Dogtown
d. A Knight's Tale

I love Heath Ledger so much that I'm presenting you with yet another Quote Quiz only this one is more intellectual rather than funny like the first. Enjoy

Quote Quiz #28: "To say I love falsely is as contradictory as to say I believe falsely."

a. Casanova
b. 10 Things I Hate About You
c. Candy
d. A Knight's Tale

Alan Rickman

Movies out on DVD last Tuesday:

Chronic-(what?!)-cles of Narnia: Prince Caspian - The only good part of this movie is the fact that Prince Caspian is hot and Peter (the blond boy from the first one) grew up to be a hottie as well. The best part is that this movie falls in the Bermuda Triangle of genres. It's a little too childish for adults to enjoy, but it's also too gruesome and war-y for small children. Plus, James McAvoy isn't in it.

Step Brothers - This movie is being coined on the TV as the "funniest film of the year". That is a bold-faced lie. Role Models was better. But this one was alright for yet another Will Ferrell-John C. Reilly movie.

Wanted - BEST ACTION MOVIE OF THE YEAR!!! Unlike Transporter 3, this movie has killer action, superb gun fights, James McAvoy AND a plot line! Needless to say, I've got this sucker on hold at Suncoast and plan to pick it up while Christmas shopping next week. I usually buy myself something as a reward for all of my hard work shopping for people.

X-Files: I Want To Believe - Who doesn't love David Duchovny? I was too young and too scared to watch the TV show, but perhaps I will partake now that I'm older. Just so long as I watch it during the day. Aliens freak me out.

Nothing of consequence comes out in theaters this week. We've got:

Nobel Son - Alan Rickman and Bryan Greenberg play father and son (I'll let you guess who plays what). The dad wins the Nobel Prize and his kid gets abducted and ransomed for his winnings. Although I love both Rickman and Greenberg, this isn't something that is going to make me jump off the couch to see it. Sorry boys.

Cadillac Records - I have no idea what this movie is about. I do know that it is set back in time a bit and it stars Adrien Brody and Beyonce (aka Sasha Fierce). Again, though I love Brody, it's not going to happen.

Punisher: War Zone - This movie DOES NOT star Thomas Jane and John Travolta from the original Punisher so I am boycotting it on principle. Even though those guys probably opted out of the sequel, I'm still loyal to the original. You can't get any better than Rebecca Romijn and Ben Foster.

Goodies!

Underrated movie of the post: Galaxy Quest. I know very few people who have seen this AWESOME movie, but those who have like it a lot. It's a parody of Star Trek where the TV actors in the show end up in outer space with real aliens and real bad guys! Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Justin Long, and Tony Shalhoub.

Movies to see: Role Models, Step Brothers, Wanted, Nobel Son and the original Punisher.

Trailer of the post: 17 Again. Katrina clued me in to this "gem". I'm conflicted.

While I love Matthew Perry and support him in all he does, I'm still not in love with Zac Efron and feel he has not yet earned street cred. However, from this preview he may just earn it. I'm not going to lie: I laughed... a lot.

Name 7 Alan Rickman: Dogma, Harry Potter, Die Hard, Sense and Sensibility, Sweeney Todd, Nobel Son, Galaxy Quest.

Alan Rickman was in Love Actually with Colin Firth who was in Where the Truth Lies with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

Quote Quiz #25 winner: Katrina with her first win! It was indeed X-Men 3. Although Katie was right in that Someone Like You is a great movie, it is in fact incorrect in this respect.

Quote Quiz #26: Name this Alan Rickman film.
"What a beautiful child. So young, so alive, so unaware of how precarious life can be. I had a very sad childhood, I'll tell you about it sometime. I never knew my parents; it's amazing I'm sane."

a. Love Actually
b. Galaxy Quest
c. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
d. Snow Cake

True Romance

I recently viewed the movie True Romance which, beyond being awesome, starred some of the greats. The best part of viewing an "older" movie is that there are actors in it playing bit parts (or just plain ridiculous parts as you are about to see). I've posted a few examples the first one being Gary Oldman as a pimp who thinks he's black. You should be warned that this movie is rated R in the truest of senses, so beware the curse words.

Next up, we have Brad Pitt playing Floyd. I think this scene is the best out of all of them, so enjoy.

And if these two scenes don't make you wanna see this movie, I don't know what will. I'll do my regular post tomorrow seeing as how I'm sick and need to recuperate in front of the TV some more. Later!

Post Script: I had to add this one. It combines two of my favorite things: Jim Carrey and making fun of CSI: Miami
