Amanda Peet

DVDs out on Tuesday

12 Rounds - While this movie stars John Cena, it actually looked quite good story-wise. I'm going to put it on the end of my Netflix Queue and let it work it's way up to the top.

Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience - Gross. What could possibly be interesting enough about a JoBro concert that they needed to make a movie about it? A 3D movie no less! Ridiculous.

Princess Protection Program - This straight to DVD movie is about a princess forced to live like a real teenager. Ten bucks says that there is a deep and meaningful lesson about friendship or something.

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li - This movie was dumb and Chris Kline was horrible and everything was completely contrived. All in all, it was bad. I may buy it.

Funny, funny goodies

Underrated movie of the post:
A Lot Like Love. While this movie also stars Ashton Kutcher, it is a fairly good chick flick. I like the story and the jumps in time. And what woman doesn't like a cute-sy ending?

Movies to see:
12 Rounds, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, A Lot Like Love.

Trailer of the post:
2012. Here's a newer and cooler looking trailer. It's gonna be good.

Name 7 Amanda Peet:
Simply Irresistible, A Lot Like Love, Whole Nine Yards, The Ex, X-Files: I Want to Believe, Identity, Something’s Gotta Give.

Kevin Bacon Game:
Amanda Peet was in Something's Gotta Give with Jack Nicholson who was in A Few Good Men with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

Quote Quiz #86 winner:
Molly disrupts Kristina's run with The Sweetest Thing. You'd better watch out Katie. I think Molly might take the lead away from you!

QQ #87: Name this Amanda Peet movie:
"Have you ever fantasized about having sex with any man, any man at all?"

a. The Whole Ten Yards
b. A Lot Like Love
c. Something's Gotta Give
d. Saving Silverman

Cameron Diaz

Movie out Wednesday:

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - See below.

Movie out Friday:

My Sister's Keeper - A serious tear-jerker, but I'm going to see it anyway. I'm intrigued to see Cameron Diaz in a serious role and Thomas Dekker is in it (the hottie from the Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles).

Summer Movie Review Part Four:

Year One - This movie was hilarious! There are not enough words to describe the love I feel for Michael Cera. That guy is adorable and everything he says is so subtle yet has you laughing til you pee your pants. (Disclaimer: Bring a diaper). Jack Black was his usual comedic self which is funny, but a little too ridiculous. All the background actors (Paul Rudd, David Cross, Hank Azaria, etc) were great and made the movie continuous funny.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - One word: Awesome! I mean, the "love drama" that was folded into the action was kind of lame and very predictable, but the better story line made up for it. It was intricate and well-thought out unlike most quickie sequels. And did I mention that the action was amazing and Josh Duhamel/Tyrese Gibson are super hot in those military uniforms? Oh yeah...

Away We Go - John Krasinski is the perfect man! At least in this movie he is. I absolutely loved seeing this. It was another example of the perfect combination of comedy and drama where you aren't overrun with either. The background actors (Allison Janney, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Catherine O'Hara, Jim Gaffigan, etc) were hilarious! John Krasinski's character was funny, adorable, and the perfect man. He understands/listens to Maya Rudolph and never does anything bad or annoying...ever. I want one. Maya Rudolph was fantastic as well. I was very keen on seeing her in a normal movie and I was a little put off by her voice. I've never heard her speak normally and I liked it. She is also a great actress. Who knew? Needless to say, I'm buying this movie as soon as it comes out, but you can go see it at some local theaters starting Friday.

Big Mouth-ful of Goodies

Underrated movies of the post:
Charlie's Angels/Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle. I'm not fully sure I understand why this movie never gets the recognition it deserves. It's a hard-core action movie with some comedic tendencies starring three strong women trying to juggle their real life and their jobs. These movies rock!

Movies to see:
Transformers 2, Away We Go, My Sister's Keeper.

Sad acknowledgements:

Both Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett died Thursday. Fawcett succumbed to her battle with cancer while Jackson died from cardiac arrest. My thoughts go out to their family and friends during this time of sadness.

Trailer of the post:
The Box. Who doesn't love a good "edge of your seat" thriller? Will they press the button? Who knows...

(I said "box" haha)

Name 7 Cameron Diaz:
Being John Malkovich, What Happens in Vegas, Shrek, Charlie’s Angels, The Mask, The Sweetest Thing, The Holiday.

Kevin Bacon Game:
Cameron Diaz was in Vanilla Sky with Tom Cruise who was in A Few Good Men with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

Quote Quiz #85 winner:
Kristina takes three in a row with Pearl Harbor! Haven't seen that movie in a while, but I think I might. Josh Hartnett is enough to counteract Ben Affleck I think. Haha.

QQ #86: Name this Cameron Diaz movie:
"Don't go looking for Mr. Right. Look for Mr. Right Now."

a. What Happens in Vegas
b. The Sweetest Thing
c. Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle
d. My Best Friend's Wedding

Kate Beckinsale

DVDs out Tuesday

Confessions of a Shopaholic - Need it. This movie, while being a little different, was still able to capture the hilarity from the books. I liked it a lot and the cast most definitely contributed to that. Isla Fisher was absolutely fantastic! Hugh Dancy, while not who I imagined playing Luke Brandon, was superb and Joan Cusack and John Goodman were a pleasant surprise. I also loved Krysten Ritter as Suze. She was perfect.

Inkheart - I need this movie too! I loved it. Even though it looks a little crazy, the plot was very intriguing and the acting was pretty dang good. I actually felt as though I was in this crazy world and it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. Besides, who doesn't love Paul Bettany and Brendan Fraser?

Pink Panther 2 - I haven't seen this one, but I intend to get it on Netflix eventually. I mildly enjoyed the first and figure that the second can't be too bad.

Beyond Gorgeous Goodies

Underrated movie of the post:
Serendipity
. This is a classic and relatively unknown chick flick starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale, but the plot is very romantic and extra gooey. So cuddle up with a nice tub of chocolate ice cream and enjoy.

Movies to see:
Confessions of a Shopaholic, Inkheart, Pink Panther 2, and Serendipity.

Trailer of the post:
Whiteout. This movie looks kinda scary, but it has Kate Beckinsale and Gabriel Macht. And I freaking love Gabriel Macht!

Name 7 Kate Beckinsale:
Underworld, Van Helsing, Serendipity, Click, Pearl Harbor, Vacancy, Much Ado About Nothing.

Kevin Bacon Game:
Kate Beckinsale was in Underworld with Michael Sheen who was in Frost/Nixon with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

Quote Quiz #84 winner:
Kristina with Thank You For Smoking. By the by, I'm still extremely proud of you for being a non-smoker. Also, I hope you haven't been hallucinating anymore spiders ;)

QQ #85: Name this Kate Beckinsale movie:
"If I had one more night to live... I'd wanna spend it with you."

a. Pearl Harbor
b. Click
c. Underworld
d. Serendipity

Aaron Eckhart

Movies out Friday

Year One - I absolutely love Michael Cera and Jack Black has his moments so I'm going to see this movie at midnight tonight. The previews look hilarious so I figure it'll be worth my while.

The Proposal - I would be going to see this movie tonight at midnight, but I love my dearest friend Katie far too much. :) So what isn't there to love about this movie? Ryan Reynolds is beyond good looking and funny to boot, Sandra Bullock is great in pretty much everything (only exception so far: Premonition. Bleh), and other great stars such as Mary Steenburgen, Craig T. Nelson, Betty White, and Malin Akerman. What's even better is the irony in the plot: Bullock (born in VA, USA) plays a Canadian who has to marry Reynolds (born in Vancouver, Canada) an American. Ironic, no?

Two-Faced Goodies

Underrated movie of the post:
Meet Bill. This movie was beyond funny and it is sad that it went straight to DVD. Eckhart plays an overweight guy married to a horrid woman (Elizabeth Banks) and has his life changed by a thirteen year old brat (Logan Lerman) and ends up with a "hottie" (Jessica Alba). Although that description may not do it justice, the movie is filled with sarcasm and humor that is carefully folded into the dialogue so you have to pay attention or you'll miss it!

Movies to see:
Year One, The Proposal, Meet Bill.

Trailer of the post:
Love Happens. This looks like another classic chick flick, but it is attracting me none the less. I love Aaron Eckhart and Jennifer Aniston can hold her own pretty well.

Name 7 Aaron Eckhart:
Paycheck, No Reservations, Dark Knight, Conversations With Other Women, Black Dahlia, Meet Bill, Thank You For Smoking.

Kevin Bacon Game:
Aaron Eckhart was in Thank You For Smoking with Adam Brody who was in Mr. and Mrs. Smith with Brad Pitt who was in Sleepers with Kevin Bacon: 3 steps.

Quote Quiz #83 winner:
Kristina with Lucky You! I think that just by the preview that Time Traveler's Wife will be pretty good. I know what you mean though. I tried to read The Time Machine and I couldn't get past the first chapter, but the movie with Guy Pierce was fantastic!

QQ #84: Name this Aaron Eckhart movie:
"Well, I need more than chocolate, and for that matter I need more than vanilla. I believe that we need freedom. And choice when it comes to our ice-cream, and that [boy], that is the definition of liberty."

a. Meet Bill
b. No Reservations
c. Thank You For Smoking
d. Paycheck

Eric Bana

Terrible day for DVDs

Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail - While I'm sure this movie is funny, it is the only worthwhile movie coming out on DVD today. Everything else was so lame, I almost didn't even write a post. But then I thought to myself, "Self, what would these people do without me?" and that train of thought took me to a scary, scary place so I decided to write one. For you. (I absolutely love that this description has nothing to do with Madea Goes to Jail.)

Television Update

I figured that, with such a lame DVD post, you might be bored so I'd let you know some of the fun TV shows I've recently fallen in love with.

How I Met Your Mother - Pretty much everyone knows how great this show is. I was just late to the game (which happens more often than not). What makes a good sitcom is when you can't choose which character is your favorite because they are all so hilarious. Also, the more I watch the more I love Jason Segel (despite seeing his penis a million times in Forgetting Sarah Marshall).

Weeds - Again, I was late to the game, but now I finally understand what all the hype is about. This show is great! I mean, I usually don't approve of comedies that make you sad/cry (i.e. Scrubs) and this one is extra sad because it's Jeffrey Dean Morgan. I freaking love him and I hate it when he dies in stuff. It brings back the memory of Denny in Grey's Anatomy and makes me cry even harder. But the show itself is hilarious and some of the one-liners make me laugh til I cry. Besides all of that, the acting, cast, and stories are great!

True Blood - This show has a lot of soft-core porn that makes you uncomfortable when you're watching it with your parents, but I'm already hooked (unfortunately so are they). I watched the first two episodes on Sunday and I'm still thinking about it in my free time. I can't wait until the next disc arrives! I don't know what I'm going to do until the second season comes out!

Funny Looking Goodies

Underrated movie of the post:
Troy
. While Eric Bana is not the reason I love this movie AND it is a terrible movie from all angles, I still love to watch it for the hunky, hunky dudes (minus Eric Bana).

Movies to see:
Troy and probably Madea Goes to Jail.

Trailer of the post:
The Time Traveler's Wife
. This movie looks amazing! I love the story, the cinematography, and Rachel McAdams. Hopefully all of that will counteract Eric Bana. Haha.

Name 7 Eric Bana:
Troy, Hulk, Lucky You, The Other Boleyn Girl, Munich, Star Trek, Finding Nemo.

Kevin Bacon Game:
Eric Bana was in Troy with Brad Pitt who was in Sleepers with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

Quote Quiz #82 winner:
No one! It was War, Inc. I know I'd already used it in another QQ, but it's such a funny movie that I couldn't resist.

QQ #83: Name this Eric Bana movie:
"I'm down with the little fish tonight, swim with the guppies for a while."

a. Hulk
b. Munich
c. Finding Nemo
d. Lucky You

Joan Cusack

Movies out Friday

Imagine That - Eddie Murphy is a bad father and most likely figures it out when he finds his daughter is talking to herself. Instead of changing himself in the first five minutes, he's going to drag it out for an hour and a half.

Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 - John Travolta and (a big-belly-laden) Denzel Washington are matched in a battle of whits. The winner gets a subway train.

Crazy Funny Goodies

Underrated movie of the post:
School of Rock. While this movie is not one of the greatest out there, Joan Cusack simply being in it makes it a little better. She's the conservative principal that is bursting at the seams to be cool but really has no idea what the heck is going on. Just some of her pithy one-liners are great. For example: A dude says to her "You're hot, you're so hot..." and she replies "What? Are you warm?" Priceless.

Movies to see:
Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 and School of Rock.

Trailer of the post:
Could it be? Toy Story 3!!!!

Name 7 Joan Cusack:
Where the Heart Is, War Inc, Friends With Money, Toy Story 2, Nine Months, Confessions of a Shopaholic, Raising Helen.

Kevin Bacon:
Joan Cusack was in Friends With Money with Jennifer Aniston who was in Picture Perfect with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

Quote Quiz #81 winner:
Molly with Superman Returns! I'm so proud and I'm glad that you are using your deductive reasoning skills, but I must admit that I'm not doing that on purpose. I just try to come up with 3 other movies that the quote might possibly be in. Haha. And Katie, I have no idea how you're still winning, but Molly's catching up!

QQ #82: Name this Joan Cusack movie:

"I have a can of mace! And I will use it!"

a. Raising Helen
b. Where the Heart Is
c. School of Rock
d. War, Inc.

Kevin Spacey

DVDs out on Tuesday:

Fired Up! - A movie about dudes who sign up as Cheerleaders to get laid. A great family film.

Gran Torino - Another dark and depressing Clint Eastwood acted/directed movie but this one is about racism. Good times.

The International - Some conspiracy movie about a bank killing people or something. Probably because they didn't pay their credit card bills.

Nobel Son - Bryan Greenberg fakes his own kidnapping to get his father, Alan Rickman, to notice him. Of course, it wouldn't be a movie if it all went according to plan. I never saw this movie, but I heard Alan Rickman was a huge jerk and, let's face it, that's how we love him.

Summer Movie Review Part Three

Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian - This movie wasn't as good as the first in most aspects but far better in others. For one, Hank Azaria totally stole the show. On the other hand, Ben Stiller has feelings for a wax figurine? I know she's Amy Adams, but seriously?

Up - I've never cried so much at ANY kid's movie. It is very cute and funny, but highly unnecessary in the tear-jerking category.

Brothers Bloom - This movie was brilliant and it totally lived up to my hype. For those of you who didn't see it, no worries. I am most definitely buying this sucker. I love Adrien Brody!!

The Hangover - Oh my goodness! This movie was hilarious and Bradley Cooper is SO good looking!! There was a lovely balance of surprise and predictable events and non-stop laughter from beginning to end. The best part? The three minutes of Bradley Cooper shirtless and the Asian guy beating the crap out of everyone. I absolutely adore this movie and will buy it as soon as it comes out.

Creepy Goodies

Underrated movie of the post:
Seven. I know it's not underrated in the least, but is there any movie that Kevin Spacey stars in that is better than Seven? It's creepy, but brilliant! So good.

Movies to see:
Nobel Son (if you want), Seven (for sure!), and any of those other ones (which I've already told you to see and if you haven't listened by now then what's the point of repeating myself?)

Trailer of the post:
Shrink. I don't know about this movie but I think it could be interesting.

Name 7 Kevin Spacey:
Fred Claus, Usual Suspects, American Beauty, K-Pax, 21, Superman Returns, Seven.

Kevin Bacon:
Kevin Spacey was in Seven with Brad Pitt who was in Sleepers with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

Quote Quiz #80 winner:

6. Beth with 1

QQ #81: Name this Kevin Spacey movie:

a. Superman Returns
b. Usual Suspects
c. Seven
d. K-Pax

Zoo-ey Deschanel and A Post Correction

Movies out Friday:

Land of the Lost - I'm not going to lie. I love Will Ferrell. This movie looks hilarious and, even though I've never seen the original TV show, I'm going to see this movie and like it!

The Hangover - Bradley Cooper and Justin Bartha!! This movie reeks of Dude, Where's My Car?, but looks even funnier with hotter dudes! That's a winner in my book.

My Life in Ruins - I wouldn't mind seeing this, but it's not one that I'm going to rush out for. It looks cute and I love Greece (in theory because I've never been there...yet) and I'm all for "discovering yourself" movies. It just doesn't ring of "must see."

Away We Go - John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph are preggo and going around the country trying to find a good place to raise their baby. Along the way they run into big-name stars who are their crazy family members and such. It's an Indie so it'll only be up in Scottsdale again, but I will go by myself if I have to!

My First of Many Post Corrections: Twilight.

Alright, so I saw this movie again and I wasn't in a sleep-deprived state and I have to admit that it's a pretty good movie (for what it is: a tweener movie. Don't expect any Academy Awards). And, amazingly enough, that is not the only thing that I am recanting.

Robert Pattinson wasn't that bad. There I said it. I honestly think that most of his faces were way ridiculous and almost all of his lines were over-dramatized, but, on second inspection, he wasn't as bad as I remembered.

In fact, I have decided to switch completely and state blatently that Kristin Stewart is actually a terrible actress! She always speaks in monotone and makes these little breathy noises before and after each line. It was like watching a train wreck. I just felt so bad for her. But thinking back on every other movie I've seen her in, she does these things all the time so what can you do? If Nicolas Cage (and his inability to show emotion) had a baby with Hilary Duff (and her little breathy noises) then that baby would be Kristen Stewart.

So, I am admitting that in my sleep-deprived state I prematurely decided that Twilight was a bad movie. And, because of this, I refused to see it again and that was the wrong move. In conclusion, I hope you're happy Janette and Kristina. I was wrong :)
(But I still don't care for Robert Pattinson, I still think he was a terrible choice for Edward, and I will never admit to this again so you might as well print it out and scrapbook it! Haha)

Some Amazing and Awkward Goodies.

Underrated movie of the post:
Failure to Launch. This movie didn't get the credit it deserved and that is because the main stars were Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew McConaughey. But if you think about how funny/awesome all the secondary characters were then you'll agree with me when I saw it was good. If only they could have just cut out those other two parts then they would have had a spectacular film.

Movies to see:
Land of the Lost, The Hangover, My Life in Ruins, Away We Go, and Failure to Launch.

Trailer of the post:
(500) Days of Summer. This movie looks great simply based on Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel. Love him!

Name 7 Zooey Deschanel:
Failure to Launch, Winter Passing, The Happening, Tin Man, Yes Man, The New Guy, Elf.

Kevin Bacon Game:
Zooey Deschanel was in The Happening with Mark Wahlberg who was in The Departed with Jack Nicholson who was in A Few Good Men with Kevin Bacon: 3 steps.

Quote Quiz #79 winner:
Katie with Zathura! And she's back in the game!

QQ #80: Name this Zooey Deshanel movie:
"I just can't believe this is the same man who told his six-year-old daughter that Christmas was a Republican capitalistic conspiracy created by the Hallmark Corporation and that, if Jesus were alive today he'd be down in Nicaragua rallying the Sandinistas."

a. Almost Famous
b. Eulogy
c. The New Guy
d. Winter Passing
(Ooooo which Indie movie is it? Ooo.... Haha)

Kristen Stewart

DVDs out Tuesday:

Defiance - I never saw this movie. It looked semi-interesting, but obviously not interesting enough to make me rush out to see it. It's another "we hate the Nazis" period-piece starring James Bond, Sabertooth, and Jumper #2 (Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber, and Jamie Bell).

He's Just Not That Into You - This movie was way better than I expected it to be. It was very funny in most parts and mixed several stories that overlapped with one another. My favorite was the Ginnifer Goodwin/Justin Long one and the most annoying was the Scarlett Johansson/Bradley Cooper one. I actually preferred the Ben Affleck/Jennifer Aniston story over that one (which is saying something). All in all, I suggest you partake in this film if you are of the female gender.

MTV Movie Awards Highlights:

Twilight dominated by taking home far too many awards which leads me to believe that MTV viewers are dominated by tweens. Honestly, Twilight was NOT a better movie than Slumdog Millionaire and I was more than a little peeved that those other guys with talent lost out to Robert Pattinson. But I'm not going to dwell/rant because I'm sure I'm getting annoying already. So I've decided to issue my own awards. Yay!
The award for Stupidest Speech goes to:
Miley Cyrus! Settle down, honey, you only won for a song. Also saying "Um... Who else? Oh yeah! GAWD! Duh!" (really loud) just makes you look foolish rather than religious. And ending with "This is for you Andy! I'm on a BOAT!" (again, really loud) is just embarrassing because I'm sure Andy Samberg doesn't care.
The award for Most Embarrassing Moment goes to:
Kristen Stewart! She dropped the popcorn! It was so painful, I felt like it was in slow-motion like a car wreck. That was hilarious.
The award for Stupidest Hair goes to:
Both Zac Efron and Megan Fox. His was greasy and constantly in his face whereas hers was just slicked back making her forehead look like a ten-head.
The award for Biggest Whiner goes to:
Eminem. So what if Sacha Baron Cohen falls from the sky and lands with his bare butt in your face (not exaggerating. It really happened exactly like that)? Don't be a baby and leave. It was obviously a joke, sheesh!
The award for Funniest Speech goes to:
Jim Carrey. Did you expect any less from that brilliant man? I mean, he hit on Robert Pattinson with his mind!! He's a genius.
The award for The Person Who Doesn't Care goes to:
Kristen Stewart, again! It seemed like every time she was put in front of a microphone she mumbled and spoke in monotone. Maybe she's shy in real life or maybe she thinks she's better than everyone else, but to me it seemed like she just didn't give a crap.
Random Shout outs:
-Yay for Ashley Tisdale winning best Best Breakthrough Performance!
-Where did Best Villain go?
-The Digital Short Song Montage with Forest Whitaker, LeAnn Rimes and Chris Isaak was beyond brilliant! Holy crap, I was laughing so hard!
-And, lastly, thank goodness the Jonas Brothers weren't there!

Vampire-ific Special Features

Underrated movie of the post:
Zathura. Sure it's just a space version of Jumanji, but who didn't love Jumanji? It was exciting and action-packed and taught small children not to hate their little brothers. That's a warm and fuzzy family film if I've ever seen one!

Movies to see:
He's Just Not That Into You and Zathura.

Trailer of the post:
Here it is, Twilight Saga: New Moon.

Goodbye Edward and HELLLOOOO Jacob!! That Taylor Lautner kid is so fine (and younger than my brother. I feel gross...). I'm not going to lie. Despite all my ramblings against the Twilight movie, I am pretty pumped to see this (it may be the lack of Robert Pattinson or the presence of the werewolves or both. You can decide for yourself ;)

Name 7 Kristen Stewart:
Panic Room, The Messengers, Twilight, In the Land of Women, Into the Wild, Zathura, Adventureland.

Kevin Bacon:
Kristen Stewart was in In the Land of Women with Meg Ryan who was in In the Cut with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

Quote Quiz #78 winner:
Kristina upsets Molly's streak with Zack and Miri Make a Porno. Honestly, Justin Long was pretty much the funniest part of that movie.

QQ #79: Name this Kristen Stewart movie:

"You guys actually set the house on fire?"

a. Zathura
b. In the Land of Women
c. Twilight
d. Adventureland

Post Script/Survey:

Have you noticed I changed "Goodies" to "Special Features"? I thought it was more relevant and has less of a sexual connotation. Haha. D'you like it?

a. Yes! You're freaking brilliant!
b. No! I like sexual connotations in blogs!
c. There's more to this blog than the Quote Quizzes?
