Hugh Laurie

DVDs out Today

Nothing of any importance

Awesome British Doctor Goodies

Underrated movie of the post:
The Borrowers - Even though Hugh Laurie's movie career is spotty with only a few supporting roles, this is by far one of the best. He's in it for a total of ten minutes max, but he's hilarious for all ten of them.

Movie to see:
The Borrowers

Trailers of the post: Chick Flicks

You Again - I really like Kristen Bell and all the other ladies in this movie. I also like that Betty White has popped up into yet another movie.

The Romantics - There are a lot of great actors in this movie, but I'm not so sure about the plot. However, I do love Josh Duhamel.

How Do You Know - Paul Rudd and Reese Witherspoon? Hells yeah!

Love and Other Drugs - This looks absolutely precious and I will see anything with Jake Gyllenhaal.

Val Kilmer

Movies out Today

The Last Exorcism - I will not be seeing this movie. Surprising, I know. Although I do have a big crush on Eli Roth, the producer.

Takers - I will not see this either. The story is stupid and it doesn't even have any interesting actors to redeem itself. For something that was advertised for almost a year, it doesn't look worth it.

Flipped - Although this looks kind of cute, I think I'll just wait for the DVD. Small children are adorable, but not worth $7.

Hunky, Chunky Goodies

Underrated movie of the post:
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. One of my all time favorite roles of Val Kilmer's. He is beyond hilarious! The entire movie is great and hardly anyone knows about it. A true crime against humanity.

Movies to see:
Flipped and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

Trailers of the post: Weird Dramas

Welcome to the Rileys. I honestly don't know what this movie is about. James Gandolfini befriends Kristen Stewart who is a hooker while his wife mourns the death of someone. I think?

Stone. I'm a huge fan of Ed Norton and Milla Jovovich, but this movie just looks stupid. I just don't get it. Why?

Daydream Nation. Kat Dennings is a slut who sleeps with her teacher. So stupid.

Black Swan. Natalie Portman is a crazy ballerina. I just don't get it! All of these movies are pointless!

Name 7 Val Kilmer:
Island of Dr. Moreau, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Willow, Top Gun, Thunderheart, Batman Forever, Deja Vu.

Kevin Bacon Game:
Val Kilmer was in Top Gun with Tom Cruise who was in A Few Good Men with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

c. Mindhunters
d. Top Gun

Ken Jeong

DVDs out Today

The Back-up Plan - While this movie was cute in all the right ways, it was also completely unbelievable. JLo is a very good looking individual, but no dude in his right mind would put up with all the ridiculous antics that she put him through.

City Island - One great indie movie with a bunch of awesome underrated actors. It's weird, but full of good old fashioned family drama. Hilarious.

Crazy Hilarious Goodies

Underrated movie of the post:
The Hangover. I know it's not underrated, but it is by far the greatest character that Ken Jeong has played. When he leaps out of that trunk naked and perches on Bradley Cooper's shoulder I nearly peed my pants from laughing. Utterly ridiculous and completely hilarious.

Movies to see:
City Island and The Hangover.

Trailers of the post: Cool Actions

Mesrine. One wouldn't normally find biopics to be action-packed, but this one looks to be pretty badass.

Monsters. Looks like it's going to be an awesome monster movie and I'm always down for an awesome monster movie.

Sucker Punch. The plot looks ridiculous and the acting looks terrible, but the special effects and cinematography may just save it. Only time will tell.

Skyline. I have no idea what this movie holds, but that scene in the end where the spaceship is sucking up human like a vacuum cleaner won me over. Looks awesome.

Name 7 Ken Jeong:
Role Models, Knocked Up, The Hangover, The Goods: Live Hard Sell Hard, All About Steve, Couples Retreat, Furry Vengeance.

Kevin Bacon Game:
Ken Jeong was in Loverboy with Kevin Bacon: 1 step.

Quote Quiz #193 winner(s):
Molly technically won with Man in the Iron Mask, but since I messed up and didn't post the right answer the first time around and Katie guessed unknowingly, I'm giving her half a point. If only because I'm a doofus.

QQ #194: name this Ken Jeong movie:
"War is upon you! Prepare to suck the cock of karma!"

a. The Hangover
b. Pineapple Express
c. Role Models
d. Vampires Suck

Jeremy Irons

Movies out today

Vampires Suck - I'm not sure about this one. On one hand, I love anything and everything that makes fun of Twilight. However, most, if not all, spoof movies are stupid.

Lottery Ticket - There are a lot of actors that I like, but there is something about the story that makes me wanna hurl. I can't put my finger on it, but it rubs me the wrong way.

Nanny McPhee Returns - I actually liked the first and I may possibly go see the sequel. Emma Thompson is great and Maggie Gyllenhaal is also a favorite. Who doesn't love a good kiddie movie?

Piranha 3D - I will NOT be seeing this ridiculous movie. I'm starting to take a stance against 3D movies because they only seem to make stupid movies more stupid. Or they make undeserving movies in 3D (Step Up 3), but movies that may actually benefit from that third dimension are left out (Scott Pilgrim).

The Switch - I am a huge supporter of Jennifer Aniston rom-coms and Jason Bateman has never let me down. Heck yes.

Sultry Sounding Goodies

Underrated movie of the post:
Die Hard: With a Vengeance. There is just something about Jeremy Irons in that skin tight t-shirt and horrific accent that makes me smile. And plus, Bruce Willis still had some hair left. Not that he isn't just as hot bald, but if he were to suddenly grow hair we wouldn't be surprised to see that it's brown.

Movies to see:
Nanny McPhee Returns, The Switch, and Die Hard 3.

Trailers of the post: Comedies

Barney's Version. I love Paul Giamatti. Even though some of the movies were misses, most of what I've seen him in were great. I think it's because he's just so likable, even when he's being a total jackass.

Colin Fitz Lives. I like these kind of films where everything is all over the place yet it is all tied together somehow into a cohesive plot. It showcases some great writing, or just really lucky writing.

Name 7 Jeremy Irons:
Casanova, Eragon, Die Hard 3, Stealing Beauty, The Lion King, Man in the Iron Mask, Kingdom of Heaven.

Kevin Bacon Game:
Jeremy Irons was in Eragon with Garrett Hedlund who was in Death Sentence with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

Quote Quiz #192 winner:
Molly with Rachel Getting Married. I haven't gotten around to watching it, but it does look very weird. At the same time, it's the kind of weird that I usually enjoy.

QQ #193: name this Jeremy Irons movie:
"Well, there is that, but also because I'm more intelligent than anybody else."

a. The Lion King
b. Die Hard 3
c. Casanova
d. Man in the Iron Mask

Anne Hathaway

DVDs out today

Dexter: Season 4 - I cannot freaking wait to watch this and get ready for Season 5!

Furry Vengeance - Brenden Fraser is attacked by forest creatures and learns not to cut down trees to build homes. The end.

The Last Song - A decent story, but Miley Cyrus cannot act. Greg Kinnear was great though and that Liam Hemsworth kid was not bad.

Princess Goodies

Underrated movie of the post:
Becoming Jane. Based on a true story about Jane Austen's rumored love life, this movie was actually really amazing. The acting was superb and the romance was perfect, but the ending is terrible. You can't re-write history though so it's just something I'll have to live with.

Movies to see:
Becoming Jane

Trailers of the post: Cute Chick Flicks

The Rebound. I think that Catherine Zeta-Jones and Justin Bartha is the perfect combo. She's hot, he's cute. She's sassy and he's funny. I like it, I like it a lot.

Lovely, Still. Normally I would be grossed out by old people kissing or anything more, but this looks too cute to pass up.

Heartbreaker. French romance movies are actually pretty great and this one looks really adorable. I hope it comes to AZ.

Name 7 Anne Hathaway:
Get Smart, Brokeback Mountain, Princess Diaries, Becoming Jane, Havoc, The Devil Wears Prada, Ella Enchanted.

Kevin Bacon Game:
Anne Hathaway was in Valentine's Day with Queen Latifah who was in Beauty Shop with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

Quote Quiz #191 winner:
Me with Predators. He was too great in that movie to pass up.

QQ #192: name this Anne Hathaway movie:
"I am Shiva the destroyer, your harbinger of doom this evening."

a. Rachel Getting Married
b. Valentine's Day
c. Princess Diaries
d. The Devil Wears Prada

Topher Grace

Movies out Friday

Eat Pray Love - I'm not so interested in the story, but I will see it for the actors in it. The story just seems self-indulgent, but if it inspires others to run away from all of their responsibilities and do whatever they want then more power to them.

The Expendables - I cannot wait to see this movie. It's gonna be epic!

Scott Pilgrim vs the World - I'm just excited for how ridiculous this movie looks. I know Michael Cera only makes stupid movies (with the exception of Juno), but what's wrong with that? They're moderately good and mildly entertaining.

Goofy Goodies

Underrated movie of the post:
Win a Date with Tad Hamilton. I know that this is B-rated chick flick, but it hold a lot of "firsts" for me and is therefore dear to my heart. It was the first time I saw Topher Grace outside of That 70s Show and it was the first time I'd ever laid eyes on the beautiful Josh Duhamel. Nerdy hot and just plain hot all in one cheesy chick flick. Perfection.

Movies to see:
The Expendables, Scott Pilgrim vs the World, and Win a Date with Tad Hamilton.

Trailers of the post: Weird Dramas

Welcome to the Rileys. I think the only kind of movies that Kristen Stewart can make are stupid vampire movies where she acts terribly or weird indie movies where she acts terribly.

Stone. I think the only kind of movies that Milla Jovovich can make are crazy awesome sci-fi movies or awkward dramas.

Name 7 Topher Grace:
Ocean's 11, Spiderman 3, Win a Date with Tad Hamilton, Mona Lisa Smile, In Good Company, Traffic, Valentine's Day.

Kevin Bacon Game:
Topher Grace was in Mona Lisa Smile with Julia Roberts who was in Flatliners with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

Quote Quiz #188-190 winners:
Katie wins two with The Brothers Grimm and Thank You For Smoking and Kristina wins for Step Brothers.

QQ Standings:
1. Kristina - 47
2. Molly - 45
3. Katie - 40
4. Me - 24

QQ #191: name this Topher Grace movie:
"Excuse me, I'm... Just what the hell is going on here?"

a. Ocean's 11
b. Spiderman 3
c. Predators
d. Win a Data with Tad Hamilton

Matt Damon, Sam Elliott, and Will Ferrell

DVDs out Tuesday (3rd)

Diary of a Wimpy Kid - I was never compelled to see it in theaters, but I think I'll add it to my Netflix queue merely because of Steve Zahn.

Kick-Ass - It had it's high points, but then it just got weird for a while. It was only good for the action/explosions. I really like that Aaron Johnson kid, though. And Mark Strong is always a favorite.

Movies out Friday (6th)

The Other Guys - This movie was hilarious! I love when Will Ferrell and Adam McKay get together because the movie they give birth to afterwards is destined for greatness. Every single time!

Step Up 3D - I demand that someone see this with me. I'm embarrassed to say so, but I'm more embarrassed to see it alone.

Twelve - Chase Crawford is in this. Beside the fact that it actually looks good, I'm already sold. It's only a limited release, though, so hopefully it's up in Scottsdale.

DVDs out Tuesday (tomorrow)

Date Night - I hear there are even more great bloopers on the DVD. And since the ones in theaters were so freaking great, I can only imagine what's in store for me when I buy it.

Death at a Funeral - The British version was great, so I'm not sure why America re-did it, but I'll see it anyway. If only to see James Marsden naked on a roof.

Meh... and Mustache-y and Laugh Your Ass Off Goodies

Underrated movies of the post:
The Brothers Grimm - While Matt Damon is not the main reason I like this movie, I can't help but admit that he wasn't that bad in it. It's not that I think he's a terrible actor (he's very good), he just doesn't intrigue me the way that Heath Ledger does (or any other co-star that Matt Damon has ever had...).
Ghost Rider - We can all admit that this was a pretty terrible movie. However, Sam Elliott really did make it a ton better. I'm convinced it would have gone straight to DVD without him. When I hear that voice or see that mustache I am mesmerized no matter what.
Anchorman - I know it's not underrated, but this is by far the best Will Ferrell movie I have ever seen. It never, ever gets old and is so quotable that if you approach a stranger on the street and say "You look like a gigantic blueberry" they will counter you with "You're a dirty pirate hooker. Go back to your home on whore island!" Priceless!

Movies to see:
The Other Guys, Twelve, Date Night, Death at a Funeral, The Brothers Grimm, and Anchorman.

Trailers of the post: Actions

Tomorrow, When the War Began - I've always been interested in stories of normal people carrying out normal lives and how they survive when the Nuclear War happens. This looks kind of similar minus the "nuclear" part. Still looks great though.

The Mechanic - I love Jason Statham and Ben Foster and action/explosions. So I may see this, but there are no guarantees. No, I'll be seeing it for sure.

Faster - The Rock being The Rock. Nothing else very interesting...

Name 7 Matt Damon:
Stuck on You, Saving Private Ryan, The Brothers Grimm, Ponyo, The Informant!, Invictus, Green Zone.
Name 7 Sam Elliott:
Road House, Golden Compass, Ghost Rider, Up in the Air, Did You Hear About the Morgans?, Big Lebowski, Marmaduke.
Name 7 Will Ferrell:
Step Brothers, Zoolander, Night at the Roxbury, The Producers, Bewitched, Blades of Glory, Austin Powers 1.

Kevin Bacon Games:
Matt Damon was in Saving Private Ryan with Tom Hanks who was in Apollo 13 with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.
Sam Elliott was in Did You Hear About the Morgans with SJP who was in Footloose with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.
Will Ferrell was in Stranger Than Fiction with Queen Latifah who was in Beauty Shop with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

Jimmy Bennett and Jackie Chan

DVDs out Tuesday (27th)

Clash of the Titans - Honestly, the effects were cool and the action was awesome, but the story left something to be desired and the acting wasn't up to par. In other words, I don't think I'm going to buy it (right away). However, it is worth seeing if you haven't already.

Repo Men - I haven't seen this yet and I plan on Netflixing it. It looks really awesome, but I've heard only mildly interesting reviews. We'll have to see!

Robin Hood - I never saw it because it looked stupid and I heard that it was panned at the box office because it was really boring. I mean, Gladiator was an amazing movie, but it may have been a one hit wonder for the Ridley Scott/Russell Crowe combo...

Movies out Friday (30th)

Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore - The original was kind of stupid so I can't imagine why they bothered making a sequel. I guess they're running out of ideas for kiddie movies.

Charlie St. Cloud - At first the trailers looked really predictable. Then I read the book and realized I was wrong. Then the book was really predictable. So, all in all, the trailers are misleading, but the movie is still really predictable. I'll probably see it anyway.

Dinner for Schmucks - The title alone means I'll probably see it even if it didn't have two of the funniest actors of our generation (three if you count the rising star Zach Galifianakis). I can't wait!

Cute Kid and Bad-Ass Goodies

Underrated movies of the post:
Firewall. The movie never got the credit it deserved. There's tons of action, great acting, and a pretty great story. But most people have never heard of it. Kind of like Jimmy Bennett.
Shanghai Noon. Most people have a negative connotation associated with this movie because the sequel was pretty terrible. But if you watch the original again, you'll find yourself laughing just as much as the first time. Classic Owen Wilson comedy and they play up the language barrier to the extent where it's funny, but not over-the-top. What a great movie.

Movies to see:
Clash of the Titans, Repo Men, Charlie St. Cloud, Dinner for Schmucks, Firewall, Shanghai Noon.

Trailers of the post: Kiddie Movies

Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader. The older kids aren't supposed to be in this one, but I saw them in the trailer. I'm not complaining though because that Peter kid is easy on the eyes.

Tangled. I could listen to Zachery Levi's nerdy-hot voice forever. And I plan on it! (At least for about 90 mins.)

Name 7 Jimmy Bennett:
Orphan, Star Trek, Evan Almighty, Poseidon, Firewall, Shorts, Stolen.

Name 7 Jackie Chan:
Police Story, Forbidden Kingdom, The Tuxedo, The Medallion, Rush Hour, Shanghai Noon, The Spy Next Door.

Kevin Bacon Game:
Jimmy Bennett was in Poseidon with Emmy Rossum who was in Mystic River with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.
Jackie Chan was in Shanghai Noon with Owen Wilson who was in Marley & Me with Jennifer Aniston who was in Picture Perfect with Kevin Bacon: 3 steps.

Quote Quiz #184-185 winners:
Kristina with No Reservations and Me because no one guessed Godzilla! Yay!

QQ #186: name this Jimmy Bennett movie:
"We're lonely and boring and always getting in trouble because we have nothing else better to do."

a. Evan Almighty
b. Shorts
c. Snow Buddies
d. Poseidon

QQ #187: name this Jackie Chan movie:
"If one does not attach himself to people and desires, never shall his heart be broken. But then, does he ever truly live? I would rather die a mortal, who has a care for someone, than a man free from his own death."

a. Shanghai Noon
b. The Medallion
c. Forbidden Kingdom
d. Karate Kid
