JK Simmons

DVDs out today

Knight and Day - Cameron Diaz and her horrendous Boston accent gets caught up in Tom Cruise's crazy CIA action-packed conspiracy. (This movie was surprisingly delightful and I think it was because Tom Cruise was in his comfort zone being a complete nutcase.)

The Sorcerer's Apprentice - Jay Baruchel is chosen to be Nicolas Cage's protege in this live action version of the beloved scene from Disney's Fantasia. (Again, this movie looks great because Nicolas Cage is being his normal crazy self and Jay Baruchel calls him out on it the whole time.)

Hilarious, Gruff Goodies

Underrated movie of the post:
Juno. Ellen Page and her friends and family deal with the humor-ized consequences of teenage pregnancy. (JK Simmons was beyond hilarious in this movie and his delivery of his one-liners were perfect. He's always spot on and usually makes any film much better just by being there.)

Movies to see:
Knight and Day, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Juno.

Trailers of the post: Dramas

Dead Awake. Nick Stahl has to deal with his dead girlfriend by hanging out with a girl who speaks to ghosts? (As you can see by the question mark, I have no clue what the plot of this movie is and I refuse to actually look it up online.)

Restless. A quirky girl meets a strange boy and they fall in love. (This looks absolutely beautiful and I cannot wait to see it. I'm a huge fan of this Mia Wasikowska girl. She's pretty awesome.)

Name 7 JK Simmons:
Juno, Spiderman, I Love You Man, New in Town, Extract, Jennifer's Body, Up in the Air.

Kevin Bacon Game:
JK Simmons was in Megamind with Brad Pitt who was in Sleepers with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

Geoffrey Rush (Turkey Day Special)

DVD out Today

Eat Pray Love - Julia Roberts travels around the world to find what her life's been missing: Javier Bardem. (I'm not sure I enjoyed this movie to its fullest extent because I'm not a middle-aged woman who's unhappy with my life. But I did enjoy it, so twenty-somethings can like it, but if you're a tween then you'll probably fall asleep.)

The Expendables - Sylvester Stallone and all his steroid-using buddies go kind of nuts and kill a bunch of people in really awesome ways. (I was actually a little disappointed in this movie. There was too much talking and not enough blowing crap up.)

Movies out Tomorrow

Burlesque - Christina Aguilera tries to make a name for herself singing and dancing in a Burlesque show. (I don't care what anyone says, this movie looks amazing! The singing, the dancing, the Cher! It's gonna be awesome!)

Faster - The Rock goes around killing a bunch of people. (I'm honestly not sure what the real plot of this movie is, but it looks pretty badass.)

Love and Other Drugs - Jake Gyllenhaal, a womanizer, and Anne Hathaway, an artist with early onset Parkinson's, accidentally fall in love in this moving film. (I actually didn't know about the Parkinson's part of this movie, but I knew from the first time I saw the trailer that I wanted to see it. It looks both hilarious and emotional all in one. The perfect combination!)

Tangled - Zachary Levi and Mandy Moore lend their voices to the new Disney film bringing the story of Rapunzel to the screen. (I will do or see anything involving Zachary Levi. And I know that sounds creepy, but I promise it's not as creepy as it sounds. Not AS creepy.)

Weirdly Cool Goodies

Underrated movie of the post:
Finding Nemo. A clown fish traverses the ocean with a friend with short-term memory loss as he hunts for his son. (After discovering Geoffrey Rush in the Pirates movies, I was pleasantly surprised to find that he isn't always a creepy dirty guy. He was funny as Nigel!)

Movies to see:
Burlesque, Faster, Love and Other Drugs, Tangled, Finding Nemo.

Trailers of the post: Chick Flicks

No Strings Attached. Two best friends try their hand as being "friends with benefits" but accidentally fall in love. (I'm a HUGE fan of Natalie Portman and a kind of fan of Ashton Kutcher so I'm sure I'll meet halfway and be a normal fan of this movie.)

Red Riding Hood. Amanda Seyfried takes on this odd interpretation of the classic fairy tale. (This looks rather sexy and I'm rather interested. Rather interested indeed.)

Name 7 Geoffrey Rush:
Finding Nemo, Mystery Men, Pirates of the Caribbean, Quills, House on Haunted Hill, Shakespeare in Love, Legend of the Guardians.

Kevin Bacon Game:
Geoffrey Rush was in Mystery Men with Greg Kinnear who was in As Good As It Gets with Jack Nicholson who was in A Few Good Men with Kevin Bacon: 3 steps.

QQ #217 winner:
Katie wins with Just My Luck!

QQ #218: name this Geoffrey Rush movie:
"I only knew that you'd know that I knew. Did you know THAT?"

a. Shakespeare in Love
b. Legend of the Guardians

Chris Pine

Movies out Friday

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 1 - Part one of the final book where Harry, Ron and Hermione hunt down Voldemort's horcruxes before he can collect all three Deathly Hallows. (I know that this is the supposed to be the most exciting movie of the year, but for some reason I'm not as excited as I should be. I have no idea why, but I'm only marginally excited. I'm just as appalled as you.)

The Next Three Days - Russell Crowe has to break his wife, Elizabeth Banks, out of prison. (While this looks exciting, there is no way this movie is going to make any money with HP coming out. And I know I won't be seeing it because I don't really like Russell Crowe...)

Sexy Fine Goodies

Underrated movie of the post:
Princess Diaries 2. Princess Mia has to find herself a husband or lose the throne of Genovia. (The first time I saw this movie I was pretty unimpressed with Chris Pine in the looks department, but by the end I was utterly in love with him and haven't looked back since. He was even sexy in Smokin' Aces as that weird guy...)

Movies to see:

Harry Potter 7.1, Princess Diaries 2, Smokin' Aces.

Trailers of the post: Dramas

Country Strong. Gwyneth Paltrow is a drunk country music star who is threatened by a new, younger singer. (The plot could have been about monkeys from outer space and I would go see this movie. Why? Garrett F*cking Hedlund. He is so amazingly hot. And now he's going to be singing in tight jeans? I may pass out in the theater.)

Rabbit Hole. Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart's young son dies and they try to cope/move on. (I love the amazing actors in this, but it looks like I will be crying from beginning to end if I see it. So I'll probably wait til it's out on DVD so I can make a fool of myself out of the public eye.)

Name 7 Chris Pine:
Smokin' Aces, Princess Diaries 2, Blind Dating, Just My Luck, Bottleshock, Star Trek, Unstoppable.

Kevin Bacon Game:
Chris Pine was in Unstoppable with Denzel Washington who was in Philadelphia with Tom Hanks who was in Apollo 13 with Kevin Bacon: 3 steps.

QQ #216 winner:
Me because no one guessed Interstate 60!

QQ #217: name this Chris Pine movie:
"Look, I don't do this for just anybody, but I'll even throw in some hot chocolate with those little tiny marshmallows."

a. Carriers
b. Just My Luck
c. Blind Dating
d. Bottleshock

Gary Oldman II

DVDs out today

Avatar: Extended Collector's Edition - The same movie only with more stuff. (Really? Did it really need to be released again? Shouldn't they have held off on releasing the collector's edition for the 10 year anniversary or something? It hasn't even been a full year since it was released in theaters! Stupid.)

Disney's A Christmas Carol - Jim Carrey's voice and animated face make this movie far more entertaining than any previous versions. (Unfortunately that's still not entertaining enough to make me want to see it.)

The Kids are All Right - The children of two mothers hunt down their degenerate sperm donor of a father. (I really wanted to see this in theaters, but never got around to it. The cast in and of itself is too great to pass up!)

The Last Airbender - Nickelodeon's Anime adventure it brought into the real world with a little kid that can control the elements and the bad people who wanna kill him. (A lot of people were really disappointed in this film, but they failed to keep in mind that the target audience is supposed to be children and they are too old to be watching cartoons. I, on the other hand, really enjoyed it, but that's because I'm a child.)

Lottery Ticket - BowWow wins the lottery, but can't cash in til after the holiday weekend. (Looks mildly funny, but not something to run out and rent.)

Ridiculously Awesome Goodies

Underrated movie of the post:
The Book of Eli. In a post-apocalyptic world, Denzel Washington has a coveted book that everyone, including a very creepy Gary Oldman, wants. (For a story revolving around a book, this one is actually pretty great and action-packed. The twist at the end is worth watching the whole thing.)

Movies to see:
The Kids Are All Right, The Last Airbender, The Book of Eli.

Trailers of the post: Action

Sanctum. A bunch of people go exploring in caves and get lost/trapped and lose their effing minds. (This actually looks pretty intense and I'm digging Ioan Gruffund. Get it? "Digging" him? Ah ha ha I'm awesome!)

Unknown. Liam Neeson wakes up from a coma to find that someone stole his entire life, not just his identity. (This also looks really intense, but it's Liam Neeson so I'm not surprised. Put that man in Europe and tell him to find something that's lost and that guy goes nuts!)

Name 7 Gary Oldman:
True Romance, JFK, Interstate 60, The Professional, The Unborn, A Christmas Carol, Planet 51.

Kevin Bacon Game: (w/0 using JFK)
Gary Oldman was in Bram Stoker's Dracula with Anthony Hopkins who was in Mission Impossible 2 with Tom Cruise who was in A Few Good Men with Kevin Bacon: 3 steps.

Katie with The Prince of Egypt!

a. The Book of Eli
b. The Fifth Element
c. Bram Stoker's Dracula

Helen Mirren

Movie out Wednesday

Morning Glory - Rachel McAdams runs a morning show starring Diane Keaton and Harrison Ford and gets to make out with Patrick Wilson. (I literally just watched this movie and it was hilarious. I just wish Jeff Goldblum was in it more and that Patrick Wilson had his shirt on less.)

Movies out Today

Fair Game - Naomi Watts is outted as a spy for the CIA and her husband Sean Penn seems like a real asshole. (Not a big stretch for Sean Penn, but that probably means he'll just win another Oscar.)

Skyline - Aliens suck humans into their spaceships by some sort of weird light and Turk from Scrubs somehow saves the day. (I was sold during the original teaser showing people being vacuumed into the spaceships by the hundreds. Looks awesome!)

Unstoppable - Denzel Washington and Chris Pine chase down a runaway train with their own train and stuff blows up or something. (Who knew that trains could be so exciting? Oh wait, they aren't...)

Queenly Goodies

Underrated movie of the post:
National Treasure 2. Nicolas Cage is roped into another treasure hunt but brings along his mom this time for kicks and giggles. (This is the first film where I realized that Helen Mirren could be funny. And I liked it. I liked it a lot.)

Movies to see:
Morning Glory, Skyline, National Treasure 2

Trailers of the post: Comedies

Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale. A bunch of dudes somehow unearth Santa Claus and hole him for ransom. (I know this is a foreign WEIRD movie, but I just couldn't help posting it. It's insane.)

Just Go With It. Adam Sandler tricks a hot woman to fall in love with him by pretending he's divorcing Jennifer Aniston. (Am I the only person who sees the flaw in this plot? How does Adam Sandler keep getting these hot women? Kate Beckinsale, Salma Hayek, and now Jennifer Aniston? I mean, the guy is great and funny, but I just don't see it...)

Name 7 Helen Mirren:
National Treasure 2, The Queen, Inkheart, Raising Helen, State of Play, Shadowboxer, Legend of the Guardians.

Kevin Bacon Game:
Helen Mirren was in The Queen with Michael Sheen who was in Frost Nixon with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

b. The Prince of Egypt
c. National Treasure 2
d. The Queen

Christopher Lloyd

DVDs out today

Charlie St. Cloud - Zac Efron sees dead people. (Unfortunately this movie was really good which only solidifies that he's actually a decent actor. I say this is unfortunate because I needed something to dislike him for since he's so freaking good looking.)

Grown Ups - Adam Sandler and all his friends reunite with their families and hi-jinks ensue. (This was actually a lot funnier than I thought for being only PG-13. A good family flick that everyone can enjoy.)

Ramona and Beezus - A small child tries to get her family to take her seriously by solving problems. (I'm not embarrassed to say that I cried on and off throughout this entire movie. I think I was just over-emotional that day, but despite that it was a really good movie.)

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World - Michael Cera falls in love with a girl with serious relationship baggage, like superhero baggage. (This movie was hilarious and I plan on buying it. Michael Cera is so awkward it's awesome, but the really star was Kieran Culkin. Hilarious!)

Crazy Weird Goodies

Underrated movie of the post:
Angels in the Outfield. Little Joseph Gordon-Levitt can see angels and uses them to help a baseball team win. (Although this wasn't a very big role for Christopher Lloyd, it is such a heart-warming and strange story that I couldn't help talking about it.)

Movies to see:
Charlie St Cloud, Grown Ups, Ramona and Beezus, Scott Pilgrim vs The World, Angels in the Outfield.

Trailers of the post: Action

And Soon The Darkness. Friends backpacking through Europe get separated and Karl Urban is hot. (Karl Urban is hot.)

Drive Angry 3D. Nicolas Cage comes back from Hell to kill a bunch of people and save a baby. (Do I really need to say more? This looks so stupid it's hilarious!)

Name 7 Christopher Lloyd:
Anastasia, Angels in the Outfield, Tom and Huck, Interstate 60, Back to the Future, Baby Geniuses, Pagemaster.

Kevin Bacon Game:
Christopher Lloyd was in Anastasia with Meg Ryan who was in In The Cut with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

c. Pagemaster
d. Back to the Future

Keira Knightley

Movies out Today

127 Hours - James Franco stuck under a rock and sawing off his own arm. (I can't see how that won't be super hot...)

Due Date - Robert Downey Jr and Zach Galifianakis drive across country and hi-jinks ensue. (You had me at Zach Galifianakis.)

For Colored Girls - Tyler Perry remakes a classic play starring a bunch of amazing actresses. (I'm going to see this movie simply because it looks awesome-sauce not to mention beautifully made.)

Megamind - Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Brad Pitt, and Jonah Hill play super heroes/villains. (Finally a kiddie movie that looks worthwhile!)

Classically Beautiful Goodies

Underrated movie of the post:
Love, Actually. A bunch of interconnected stories reveal the truth about love, loss, and everything in between. (Most of Keira Knightley's movies are period-pieces where she's kind of annoying or regular movies where she's kind of annoying. This movie, however, she was barely in and when she was on screen she wasn't annoying at all. I call this a success!)

Movies to see:
Due Date, For Colored Girls, Megamind, Love Actually.

Trailers of the post: Dramas

Meskada. One hunky dude tries to solve a crime that another hunky dude may have committed while a bunch of other people just hang around. (I've always had a crush on Nick Stahl, but this movie look a little too weird. Just like that other trailer I posted of his... Doesn't look like his career is moving in the right direction.)

Blue Valentine. The relationship between Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams is shown in scenes from the beginning and present as they struggle to keep it together. (This looks precious and if Ryan Gosling is going to sing then I'm on board.)

Name 7 Keira Knightley:
Pride and Prejudice, Love Actually, Pirates of the Caribbean, Silk, Domino, Atonement, King Arthur.

Kevin Bacon Game:
Keira Knightley was in Love Actually with Colin Firth who was in Where the Truth Lies with Kevin Bacon: 2 steps.

QQ #212 winner:
Me because no one guessed Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow! Tricked you!

QQ #213: name this K. Knightley movie:
"Have you had a nose job?"

a. The Jacket
b. Domino
c. Bend it Like Beckham
d. Love Actually
